Does the new governor function offer a setting for fast recovery from autorotation (just incase something goes wrong)? I have the Hobbywing Platinum v3 100A esc set to heli gov off mode (on airplane mode initial motor spool up is way too fast).
I am flying a Goblin 380 with a KDE 500XF-925 and running 2700, 3000, & 3200 rpm with stock 21tooth pinion. I have noticed that the settings for initial spool up, motor timing, and PMW rate from the ESC still seem like they are being used. There are differences in performance when I adjust these setting in the ESC. I guess that makes sense since there are not settings for those in the Spirit FBL Gov. The gov seems to work very well, especially in pitch pumps and tick tocs. The only Issue I've noticed is it wants to over speed on big negative pitch pumps a little more than it did when using the Hobbywing esc gov.
I have it set to Response:5 and Hold:4. This seems to be the min settings for holding rpm on positive pitch pumps and tic tocs. It holds rpm with no audible decline at all. I may try to go a little higher to see if I can reduce over speed on neg pitch pumps. Absolutely no tail wag either.
Overall the gov works very well and I will continue to use it. Like everything else in the Spirit, it was extremely simple to setup. It also seemed like I was getting an extra 15-20 sec flight times but I have only had 5 gov flights far.
Thank you guys for continuing to improve this awesome FBL controller. Hopefully I can figure out the auto rotate recovery.

SEAN.

Thank you very much for the info!

Our governor has implemented the bailout feature, settings are dependent on the spoolup rate - (Fast spoolup) option.
It is there but we wanted to make it easy so we have preconfigured optimal values there.

You are right, settings from the ESC are still important too.

Most governors I've used either have a throttle range setting like 5%-20% or a Time limit of something like 10 or 15 seconds that will allow for the motor to stop but still have a fast rpm recovery if needed. This allows for a smooth initial spool up for take off and still give the ability to have a fail safe fast recovery for auto rotations practice.
Is there a way for me to set the Spirit governor up to do this?

Yes, as I said in the previous post, you can change it by changing Spoolup rate.
This parameter also affect bailout speed when hold is activated and then deactivated in short time.

With Fast spoolup option it will be faster. Our governor is working little bit differently thus does not require such timing settings.

Thomas,

Would you mind elaborating on a) "working a little differently", b) "short time" so that we can undertstand better what you mean by that and what kind of time window we have?

+1

It still is not 100% clear for me.
As I see it, there are three different things in my book.

1. Slow spoolup, when you flip the throttle hold switch, heli on the ground.
2. Faster spoolup, when you flip the throttle hold switch, heli on the ground and you hate waiting. ;)
3. Autorotation bailout, when throttle hold is ON, you panic, flip out of throttle hold, heli still in the air.

With the autorotation bailout you want crazy fast spoolup, a tad before stripping your main gear.
There is no way you want this crazy fast spoolup when the bird is sitting on the ground.
That will probably give you a tip-over, because the bird starts spinning on its skids.
Or strips the main gear or whatever bad stuff happens.

So how does the above translate to the Spirit?

I think this is a great question. Hopefully we can get it answered. We understand there are two spool up modes, and each has its own bailout speeds. What triggers switching from bailout back to spool up speed? Need to know this so we don't accidentally spool up on the ground at bailout speed.

With our governor it is not possible to accidently spoolup with very high rate so it can't damage gears.

Spoolup rate is determined by Mode parameter too. It is also described in the manual and software tooltips.

Okay, that's exactly what I was worried about, so this is very good to learn.

What is the exact condition for a spool up with high rate? Is it for example a throttle signal that was not decreased to zero but only to around 15%? Please explain it.
