Can he send the latest Spirit Settings file? Not screenshots?

He can also assign Gyro Gain channel for a try.

I don't think anyone has touched on the programming of the switch itself.

Can you try something for me?

In your radio, the switch you have assigned for Rescue, can you verify that it is putting out +100 when in the Rescue Engaged postion and -100 in the Rescue Off position. Or whatever the numbers are for a RadioMaster. Sorry but I'm a Spektrum user so don't know the values of a RM.
Plus that it is assigned to Channel 7.

Now in the Spirit Software on the Stabi Page:
Select Assign By Channel.
Then set Acro Delay to 0.3 Seconds.
Set Rescue Duration to 5.0 Seconds.
Set Pitch to 100%.

Now on the General Tab:
Select Channels.
On the right of that page:
Select Channel 7
Then pick a Rescue Mode. Don't think it matters for the purpose of this test but maybe Resuce Normal or Rescue Acro, either or.

So now the green bar under that should be all the way to the left with the switch in the Rescue Off position and full right (all green) with the switch in the Rescue engaged position.

Is this what you are seeing?

Note that 5.0 seconds and 100% pitch is too much and too long for the Rescue to run in real life. Your heli will be a tiny dot in the clouds, lol. So adjust accordingly before flying the machine.

I have attached the lastest version of the setup file.

I have tried activating Rescue via gyro gain before, it behaves the same as via channel unfortunately. Here's a video showing the test:
https://youtu.be/1rQKgJDwMjE

ZeXx, I may have made a mistake in how rescue is triggered early on but I've made many test late with Rescue set as F: Rescue Normal. In this last video I'm linking to it's set correctly and the results are the same. Go directly to the right place in the video via this link: https://youtu.be/u2GXpIkVi40?t=415

The video otherwise shows the setup of the heli and that I have disconnected everything other than the swash and rudder servo and also use a another esc as a power source.

To be honest i think we can rule out the radio as the cause. It must be something related to the configuration of the Spirit or some kind of defect in the unit. I've contacted RC-Batteri in Norway to hear if he has another unit he could loan me for troubleshooting.
Unfortunately I don't have any other helis right now, maybe I should buy and OMP M4, what do you think? :-)

The Logo is old, but never crashed and with good gear. Servos are Futaba BLS451 and 251 which were excellent servos back in the day. Not programmable though and should not have any incompatabilities with Spirit. I've only had the Logo in the air five or six times with the Spirit, it flies well exect for Rescue not working.

PS. Some excellent ideas from ExCCHP in his post. right now The spirit is seen -118 and +118 on the rescue channel. I will decrease the limits and retry. (although the tests via ha done via activation via gain should rule out a problem with activation?)

ExCCHP, thanks for your input, I had a glimmer of hope for a second but it was dashed unfortunately.

I followed your instruction and decrease the output on channel 7 to 83% which yield an output of -100 to +100 as seen from the Spirit. I also change the rescue parameters as described but the Spirit behaves in the same way.

Video that shows the process: https://youtu.be/UXpn19m7rVY (give it a few minutes to render to HD)

just to eliminate one (hardly) possible source (even it's almost impossible): could you assign channel 5 to Gyro gain (without any changes in the TX) and see what it sends to Spirit unit in diagnostics window? does it change (by some mixes or whatsoever other reason) when Rescue is activated?

i know it should not have any effect, but Gyro is somewhat special depending on the setup - negative could fire Rescue too etc... so just to be sure there is no unknown side effect on channel #5 ;)

Hello,
in the screen I see settings that are in my opinion not correct, but this is not your problem with rescue -
The values are way off in my opinion -

Do you have max. pitch of 15° ? That seems very high -
The cyclic pitch is 8° and thats for the collective pitch very low, I think it has to be 10 or 11° by the way -
Your Rudder limits are totally false 209 is way off ! The value has to be not magenta -
For this problem you have to put the linkage in the servohorn to holes outwards to reduce the values-

Why do you choose common gain 1,4 ? you can it easyly set up to 84° ?

I think that something is not set correctly here, because strangely enough, the maximum negative and maximum positive pitch is reached - I'm sure the problem comes out from the programming of the Radiomaster remote control, it can't be otherwise -

Spirit is not the problem -

Ah, sorry about the increased collective, during troubleshooting it was suggested that I should increase the pitch to more than the 10% I have flown with. Cyclic I used about 8 degrees in flight. I forgot to turn that down after testing.

I'm aware of the tail setup being subotimal. The push rod is too short but is glued so I will need to buy a new one.

Your are thinking of rudder common gain being set at 1,4x? That is default (at least for the Logo 600 preset) and I haven't changed it.

Ok, so we have tried the Radiomaster, from a blank model a few times. With two different receivers. We have tried a Frsky Taranis from at blank model with a third receiver. I have made numerous videos showing my setup and no one can find and issue with the setup procedure. But there can be nothing wrong with the Spirit?
I fully understand that it seems extremely unlikely for a gyro to work perfectly in all modes except rescue, altitude hold etc. However if we have spent all this time checking and rechecking the setup and we cannot find an issue with it, then it might time to consider the obvious next step which is to try another Spirit. Or perhaps another radio brand.

i turned on my tx16s and please
you click
MDL
OPEN CHANNEL MONITOR
push the SC button
check it out all channel pages and make sure that nothing is activated
now check special functions-mixes-input- ecc than any menu does not use sc buttons

now use SC button to activate rescue with method channel
and try to use a channel never used type channel 16 the highest channel

REMEMBER
in software spirit where do you choose the channels you must always have a channel selected to control the gyroscope by radio why i use in this mode and I know it works.
do not use gyro gain from spirit software.
US BUTTON SC FOR ACTIVATE THE RESCUE

Hi, we have testet activating Rescue with gyro on channel 5 instad of a channel and it behaves the same way unfortunately. The Spriit says that Rescue is enabled but it must be in som other state as neither does the pitch go to the correct angle, I'm not able to adjust collective "agressiveness" with the Rescue Collective setting and also if Gyro duration is set it does not expire after the timer runs out.

Please see the latest video I'putting out now, it shows all the output monitor screens as well.

I followed your procedure here https://youtu.be/mqxF0zDh6J8

As I said in the post above. It appears fairly obvious that even if the Spirit says that Rescue is "Engaged" the gyro is not in the correct state. Most likely the developers should have some tooling to debug the behavour of the gyro. Maybe it's an idea to send the gyro in the mail to Spirit and have them take a look at it.
