Is there anyone who has been able to open the Firmware? I have been trying one day to open it with no success. Or is it not necessary to use it?

Hello,
we are shipping units with the latest firmware, so there is no need to update it.
But if you are having a troubles with opening the firmware, then you will very likely use Internet Explorer web browser for downloading the firmware. And this is the problem, because it is changing extension of the firmware file name (for very strange reason). So then the software can't find it, since it was changed from original 4df.
If you can rename the extension from man to 4df, then all should work immediately.
Or you can just use another web browser (Firefox, Chrome, Opera, ...) and it should work correctly always.

Thanks for the answer! However, I cannot open the file "spirit-fw-2.4.3.4df" with Chrome or Safari. I get the dialog boxes "no program to open it" and "no program can open the file".

Ah, you should not open it actually.
You should start the Spirit Settings and there go to Update tab. Once there, select the file and press the Flash button.
Is the firmware in the unit outdated?

I started the Spirit-settings, could not press the update tab, maybe because the status was "Not connected". What should be connected?

The unit must be connected, powered and initialized. Then you can start the Spirit Settings software.
Only if software will tell you that firmware is old, then you have to do update. Otherwise you do not have to update it. So I guess that the problem you have is different. First you have to connect with the unit so you can see Serial number and all the settings are accessible.
In the Connection tab, you have to see a Device. Is there any? If not, then it can't work. You will have to install driver for the USB interface first.

The uSpirit is connected to the MAC by the interface cable. The blue uSpirit light is on. The driver has been successfully installed. I do´nt understand the "3 Software Installation" for Apple MAC OS X, and the status of the Spirit-Settings is: not connected.
