Can you guys steer me towards the proper way to calibrate the Spirit Pro with the HW 130a ESC? I tried an initial calibration but could not get the proper tones from the ESC to confirm the calibration.

Setup:
Trex 760X
Spirit Pro
HW 130a V4 ESC
Jeti REX 10 rx

Thanks,

Sawacs

Hello,

correct way for calibration is:
1) connect the battery
2) after initialization start the software
3) make sure to turn off Governor in the unit (if used)
4) set Throttle Range to default - Min.: 1100us, Max.: 1900us
5) save the settings
6) proceed the calibration according the HobbyWing manual

Now all should be perfect. From this point you should not change the Throttle Range. Especially not the Max. value.

Thank you for the information.

I'll give the calibration a go as soon as my TX gets back from a gimbal upgrade.

Okay, I went in and did some configuring on the throttle in the Jeti DS16.

I began by trying the default Spirit range of 1100-1900us with no luck so I tried to match the Spirit range to match the ESC's range of 1100-1940.

In order to achieve the 1100 min and 1940 max esc throttle input so it matches the 1100 and 1940 min and max set in the Spirit FBL, I had to bring the max positive and max negative values in the tx down to +88% and -80% respectively. With the +88 and -80 numbers set in the tx (1100us-1940us), the Spirit software shows +9% min and +93% max throttle output. Shouldn't those numbers be 0 and 100% throttle?

When I plug the system in, I get the normal 2 beeps at high stick. When I reduce the throttle too min, I get a long beep, then 2 short beeps with no beeps to confirm the amount of lipo cells.

I have a Trex 600 running a Skookum 720 with a HW esc along with a Goblin 420 running a Skookum 540 and a HW esc and did not run into the same issue when calibrating the throttle.

When I calibrated those setups, I set the HW esc to fixed wing with the throttle curve to standard and everything calibrated fine. I then proceeded to set the HW to gov store mode and set a constant throttle curve of 50% to calibrate the gov.

Do I need to get the beeps to confirm the lipo cell count with the Spirit and tx throttle range set to match the esc?

Thanks!

I think you need to set the Jeti Throttle Setup so you get a 0% to 100% throttle range on the Spirit diagnostics page, not using 1100us-1940us in the transmitter. My Jeti transmitter throttle range is set so I get 1008us-2007us (I am using an Ex-Bus connection) for the 0% to 100% Spirit range. Then, I assume the Spirit 0% to 100% Diagnostic range gives you the Throttle Range on the Governor/Throttle settings. I had no trouble with my HW 130A V4 throttle calibration.

Hello,

in order to correctly calibrate throttle in the ESC, you have to first set your radio to have linear throttle curve.
And this throttle curve must go from 0 - 100% in the Diagnostic tab. If you will change it before calibration, then it will be calibrated improperly.

So then you have to turn of governor in the unit (if enabled) and start the calibration as usually.
You do not have to change throttle range in the unit so default values 1100 - 1900 can be used. But you can change it to 1100 - 1940 too. Since the ESC will learn this range it is basically not important what you will set in the unit. It is just important you will not change it after the calibration.

After this, you can change TC in your radio to whatever you want.

Zex, thank you for the detailed reply and support.

I was finally able to calibrate my throttle and the person to blame is myself.

Since I am running a Hobbywing ESC and using the esc's gov rather than the Spirit gov, I went in and disabled the throttle channel in the Spirit unit and ran the ESC throttle wire directly into the Jeti receiver to split up the power between the Spirit and rx.

When I tried to calibrate the throttle, I was waiting for 12 beeps after the throttle stick was lowered to minimum or idle. However, the HW esc does not beep 12 times when a 12s battery is plugged in. After looking at a video on Youtube, I noticed a pattern of beeps when the throttle stick was lowered to minimum: I was getting the same set of beeps!

Anyhoot, all is well and working just fine.

Thanks!
