Hello Tomas,

I want to build up a TRex 700 with an Align RCE BL 130A ESC (Combo 700 L V2) and a Spirit Pro.

Do You recommend for this configuration BEC BackUp System?

I ask this mainly therefore, because the ESC is a Hobbywing Product, from which I read in many Forums, that a backup System would probably damage Hobbywing ESC´s.

I hope, You are not peeved about my question, because it affects beside the Spirit Pro another product from another Company. If You don´t want answer to this question, I have to accept this.
This is also the reason, why I wrote a private message. But if You think, the question is from General interest, feel free and put in in the public Forum.

But first many thanks in advance for reading and spending time with it

With best regards

Roland

Hello,

it will very likely work with this ESC, but I recommend to make sure that BEC tester can pass with no problem.

Backup is not required, it just adds additional safety.

If you are flying hard the ESC amperace could be at the edge, but I know even people are flying with 80A ESC successfully.

Hi Roland

My best practice, I use ULTRA-GUARD 430 on my SOXOS 550, 600 and DB7 helis with HobbyWing ESC since 2 years+.
Important, take care about its LiPo and plug it in on field and unplug once leaving the field and you will be fine.
I did also add a single capacitor of 470uF to a free Spirit port or to one servos ports with a Y-connector which takes care about any voltage spikes coming from servos.
I use Telemetry to monitor BEC Voltage, so if Voltage drops by like 1V, I know I'm running on Backup and need to land ASAP.

As Thomas said, backup is a nice plus, but not required.
Since I use it this way, I did not have a single problem due to BEC Voltage drops.
It even saved me two Helis on main battery connector issues like moved battery during flight and unplug.

regards, Adrian

Hello Adrian,

thank You very much for Your reply.
Your backup solution sounds interesting.
Do I understand right:
The unplugging of the 2s Backup Lipo of the guard after flight has to occur before unplugging the main battery to prevent bachvoltage from the backup Lipo into the ESC? I think, this was the reason why Hobbywing advised against such backup solutions?

I have found a complete Ultra Guard Combo by Live Hobby
(https://www.live-hobby.de/Brushless-Reg ... BG002.html)

I would be very grateful, if You would tell me (Heli Beginner) Your opinion to this package.

Thanks in advance and with best regards

Roland

I have multiple large helis flying like this.

You unplug the flight packs and the (2S) RX pack, as you like. The LED on the UG will flash and then you push the UG button to switch it off. The advise is to not leave the UG battery connected for long periods of time. It is a small battery and if not disconnected will drain over a few weeks. If you're going to fly the next day, no need.
