Hi,

I would like to upgrade my 700 heli from Spektrum and lowcost ESC without telemetry to Frsky Taranis with an ESC which does have telemetry of RPM, Voltage, current, mAh used, ESC temp.

The 700 heli is equipped with an Spirit Pro.
My plan is to use/buy:
- R-XSR as main receiver with telemetry
- XM+ as redundancy receiver
- Castle Creations Phoenix Edge 120 HV
- Telem CC cable
- S-BUS adapter cable
- FrSky integration cable

does this fit my needs?
Do I need anything else?

If I would update my little 450 heli (with only an Spirit not Pro unit) also to Taranis and telemetry could I use all of the above components (the 50Amps version of the ESC) and everything fits in?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I highly recommend to use other receiver, since this one is designed for micro helicopters. The cables are extremely thin and connection is not too easy - soldering required. I would not recommend this receiver even for 450 class.
Instead use X6R or at least X4R-SB receiver.

I recommend to get HobbyWing V4 160A for good performance out of the box (+ Telem UNI). also BEC can withstand more. But CC is good option too.
SBUS Adapter cable is not for Spirit Pro or uSpirit - only smaller Spirit units.

Yes, even smaller Spirit can be used on the 700 class, but you will need the SBUS Adapter cable and possibly Y-cable.

Thanks for your answer but both of these receivers doesn´t have a redundancy option so it is not possible to use two receivers at different places on the Helicopter.

I´ve build an Assault 480 Helikopter with an R-XSR plus one XM+ as redundancy receiver and test it with these Helikopter how reliable this is. And test an 450 Helikopter with an X4R-SB and the decide which receiver I would use in the bigger Helis. As for now I use these with an DSMX Satellite and an DSMX Transmitter modul.

For small helicopters (250 class and smaller) it is very good option.
But I still do not recommend usage of these in any case for bigger than 450. Not because signal quality, but because they are extremely fragile (especially cables), not suitable for bigger models.
So even with redundancy, it might fail much sooner. This is from my own experience.
So good cables, good covers, antenna mountings are good for safety.
