Hi There,

I'm using a DX9 and JIVE Pro 120+

I finally got around to playing with the telemetry today and have a few questions as below:

1) On the ESC Status screen my RPM value was increasing from: 0, to 1000, to 2000, to 3000 with no values in-between, so just 3 increments 1000 at a time. So I went into the Tx's ESC Status screen settings and set my Pole Count to: 8 and the Ratio to: 7.00:1 (the same as set in the ESC itself) and after doing this the RPM value now shows as: 0 or 1. Any ideas? Perhaps I've missed a setting?

2) The BEC Voltage value shows 4.6V which changes to 4.8V after spooling up on the bench. Actually it varies between those two values, but the problem is why isn't it showing 6.0V as set within the ESC itself. So I temporarily changed the setting in the ESC to 5.6V just as a test to see if it made a difference, but it still showed 4.6V or 4.8V. Any ideas what could be the reason?

Cheers, Gary.

Hi,

1) Gear Ratio and Sensing Divider should be configured always in the unit (not TX). Values in the transmitter should be at default to work well.
2) Are you using external BEC? Maybe this could be reason.

Hi There,

1) Okay I'll change the Tx Motor Pole and Gear Ratio settings back to Inhibit, and set them in the Spirit unit and test.

2) The BEC being used is simply the one in the JIVE Pro.

I'm off to work now, so I'll test 1) above when I get home this evening.

Cheers, Gary.

Edit: For 1) above should I have the Pole count and Gear Ratio set in the JIVE Pro (like it is now) for it to work correctly?? I'm just trying to imagine how these settings within the ESC might work in conjunction with those same settings set in the Unit, also considering that those same settings are inhibited within the Tx.

Edit 2: I'll check again later, but from memory I recall the JIVE Pro stating that its Pole count and Ratio settings are for Telemetry purposes i.e. they're not used to set the RPM like in various other ESCs.

Hi There,

I've checked the Spirit unit's Governor checkbox.

I've set the "Sensing Divider" to 4 as it explains (so that's 8 poles / 2) and the "Gear Ratio" to 7.00

I've left all the other unit's governor settings at their defaults because I'm using the JIVE Pro builtin governor.

Now it doesn't spool up at all ;) whereas before the governor checkbox was checked the ESC and bailout operated normally.

I've only ever used Kontronik builtin governors before for any FBL.

Question) Is it correct to use the JIVE Pro's builtin governor, check the unit's governor checkbox, set only the sensing divider and gear ratio, and disregard all the unit's other governor settings :?:

Cheers, Gary.

Hi,

after setting the ratio and divider it is required to turn the Governor off.
In next release it will be more user friendly where it will be not related with governor.

Okay that's got it working again like you say.

Now though it simply displays: 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 in increments of 1000 like before with no values in-between.

Before it simply displayed: 1000, 2000, 3000 (to recap please see my opening post).

So I'm now getting a range of 6 values instead of 3 values :) any ideas :?:

Cheers, Gary.

Do you have ProgCard? Was this ESC used previously? The problem is that also the ESC has memory with configuration of Gear Ratio/Motor Poles. If it is not in default, then it will cause troubles :(

I have the Prog Unit which is used to set things such as the low voltage cut-off, over-current cut-off, BEC voltage, motor poles and gear ratio, and a few other parameters.

In 1) of my opening post I mentioned that the ESC is set to 8 poles and 7.00:1 ratio. I'll have a play around with the poles and ratio settings within the ESC tonight to see if it makes a difference.

No worries (Y)

Cheers, Gary.

Great. In the first post you were talking about radio configuration (1). But both in the ESC and in the radio it should stay in default.

Okay so I've changed the JIVE Pro "Motor" parameters back to the defaults. Please see photo below:

JIVE Pro Prog Unit Settings:

Image

The result is just a different multiple of the RPM reading, still only in increments of 1000. So both the ESC and the Spirit Unit change the RPM multiple when changing the pole count or gear ratio, which is probably as expected no doubt.

Also regarding question 2) the BEC Voltage, it did for a while settle on 4.40V, again, it's set to 6.0V in the JIVE. Please see photo below:

DX9 Telemetry Values:

I don't know of any other settings to change, but I'm happy to wait for the next update if needed, so no worries :)

Cheers and thank you very much for your assistance, Gary.
