Hi,

I received my Jeti Radio and a EX3 receiver, (not REX3). I am going to switch it from the DSMX Sat to the Jeti rx this weekend, and aside from setting up the radio, I just want to make sure that I'm not going to miss a critical step within the Spirit for this switch-over. Is it just a matter of changing the Receiver type in the Software and re-calibrating the endpoints in the Diagnostic Tab?

Do I need to calibrate the Jeti sticks at all in radio, or am I safe to assume it comes pre-calibrated?

As for hook up, I'll be connecting via EX-Bus on the EXT port, (no telemetry at this time). I currently have the RPM wire from the HW 60A connected to the PIT pin, so I'm thinking that connector can stay as is, but I'll add the single wire next to it for the AIL pin from the EX-Bus cable. Will this take care of the EX-Bus needs as well as the Gov needs?

Thanks!

Hi!

You are right. You do not have to change anything else in the unit, just Receiver type.

You can try our preset for Jeti where everything is prepared exactly for Spirit.

Here you can download it: http://spirit-system.com/dl/jeti/Spirit-DS14.zip

Thanks. Will DL that tonight.

And the RPM wire to PIT pin alongside the EX-Bus wire to AIL pin is the right connection?

Just dropped the spirit.jsn file onto the radio. A bit overwhelmed with setup.

At the moment, without fully understanding the capabilities I can have, I'm looking to have the following.

Normal, IU1 & IU2 (on one 3 way switch) + an Autorotation/Hold Flight mode on another which acts as my timer toggle and my throttle safety switch at startup.

I'd like Normal and IU1 to be on Bank 0 and linked to the same switch, and then IU2 triggers Bank 1 and the momentary switch triggers Bank 2 for Rescue.

I can figure all of it out except the momentary switch that triggers Bank 2 for rescue. Somehow, I need to mix it into the same channel I've chosen for Banks and linked to the FM switch. Am I going about this correctly?

The key is that if Bank2 is going to be used for Rescue only, to activate the Rescue feature you have to move to Bank 2 AND either change tha Gyro gain to negative, or dedicate a channel only for that and activate the Stabi function through that (using the RTT feature).

The second option is new to the last firmware/software.

Don't know why you would want to do it like, if you don't plan to fly in Stabilization modes, then forget about Bank 2 and use the Rescue directly in Bank 0 and Bank 1...

Your response made me realize I'm not thinking it through correctly. I had it all sorted out on my DX6 and had my head wrapped around it. The Jeti is making me second guess things and approach it incorrectly.

What's the best Jeti method to switch between banks and have Stabi tied to a momentary button?

In the DX6, I was using Gyro gain in the software to free channel 5 up for bank switching. I'd like that to be back in the Jeti on channel 5 and bank switch on channel 7. Then I'm assuming the Stabi gets enabled on the Banks that I plan on using and the momentary switch gets tied to a negative Gyro gain to initiate rescue in any/all Banks I've activated it on. Correct?

What Jeti Rx are you using and how are you connecting it with the Spirit unit; EX Bus or individual PPM leads?

After updating my Spirit Pro to the latest firmware, I removed the free mixes that forced gain to the negative of whatever the gain was set (by a channel on the Tx/Rx.) I then used channel 8 (Device Explorer, EX Bus, Rx configuration...) to control "Stabi" as it is much cleaner than using free mixes.

You then have a choice of how to trigger "Rescue". As Coco66 mentioned, decide whether you are going to be flying around in a stabilization mode (then separate banks make sense) or fly around in normal mode with rescue as the option when the "stabi" switch (e.g., momentary button) is depressed.

If the former, then you need to establish free mixes to force the bank to "2" where you plan on having "Rescue". You would do this using Free Mixes as you would have done changing master gain to negative only you are forcing "Bank 2" using the same switch that turns "Stabi on".

If you need more help, feel free to ask, but first think about what Coco66 mentioned and decide how you are going to fly. The free mixes are straightforward and I can provide screen shots if you shoot me a PM.

I still use a three-position switch to control banks and a momentary switch to control "Stabi".

I think I've figured out my biggest issue, which you prompted, (thanks). I checked the change log for the latest Spirit FW (haven't upgraded yet) and see this:
Rescue and Stabilisation activated by a Separate channel:
From now you can select which way you want to activate Rescue or Stabilisation modes.
You can select any available channel for activation.
New special function "F: Stabi function" was added for this purpose.
Very easy configuration described in our Guide, including old way.
Old way (by Negative gyro gain) is without any change.

I was looking at the Spiri.jsn model preset and didn't see any free mixes so was utterly perplexed about how that was integrating and initiating Rescue. Now it makes more sense and before I spend time speculating on how I'm going to do this, I need to update the FW and have a look and I expect it will all make much more sense to me after that.

I've DL'd the latest Spirit SW (OSX) and assuming I can just replace the Spirit SW in my Applications folder with the newest version. This the correct process? I'll then flash the FW.

To answer your first questions... It's an EX3, but I don't even have that installed on model yet. Wanted to figure out radio programming first and then will get heli switched over this weekend. Will be via EX-Bus for now. Once I get the FBL dialled in to my liking, I'll likely switch to UDI if I decide to incorporate the MUI I bought as it'll need the single EXT port, punting EX-Bus and from the setup for now until I can buy a REX3.
