From the setup manual for rescue mode using Futaba transmitter, rescue is configured on idleup3. Can the third flight mode be used without rescue? For example I would like to have three flight modes and use another switch for rescue. Is this possible?

Rescue is independent from any Flight modes.
Just configure a 3-way-switch for spirit bank switching if you like and a momentary button just for rescue.
You don't have to use bank switching. Rescue is also possible with only one bank. Rescue activation is controlled via Gyro Gain Channel (positive or negative value)

Great. Thank. Sounds logical. I'll play around some more with the settings.

Hi,
yes, this is true. The only thing to set in your transmitter is Gyro Gain. If you can set gyro gain for each flight mode separately, then it is even better. You will just need to map some switch (momentary is the best for rescue) to Gyro Gain channel. This channel will change from one value to another (for rescue activation you have to set just a negative gyro gain) - usually opposite of the value that you are flying with (70% -> -70%)

So if I understand correctly on channel 7 I can have: Bank 0 Disabled Bank 1 Stabilization (Normal) Bank 2 Stabilization (Acro) And Rescue on Gyro Channel as a Negative value. Then How do I set the rescue to either Normal or Acro ?

Yes, you are right. There are two options. First option is to have two switches - one for activation of the stabilisation (channel 5) and one for changing banks (channel 7). With switch for activation you can just change Gyro Gain from a positive value to a negative.
Second option could be easier - you can unassign your Gyro Gain in the Channels. Then you can set the gain in the Sensor tab for each bank separately. Thus for Bank 0 it should be positive value. For Banks 1 and 2 it should be same value, but negative.
Then it is enough if you will switch the channel 7.

I like the first option of having rescue on the push button switch. and the 3 different banks (flight modes) on a separate one. What I'm confused about is if by changing the Gain on Gyro channel activates Rescue, How do I select or set which type of rescue is used ?

If you use a Bank for flying in Stabilization, you cannot have Rescue in the same bank. Stabilization is a "stabi" function, which is in alternative to Rescue. They are both activated by negative gyro gain, but Stabilization you will have always on, while Rescue you will command briefly when you have problems, until you regain control.
So, if you want Stabilization AND Rescue you need to dedicate a bank to non-stabilized flight AND Rescue.
This will involve using two TX switches playing around with values of two channels, the bank switching and the gyro gain.
If you never fly without Stabilization, then it will be easier, you will unassign the gyro channel in Spirit, set up all negative values, and just switch banks to activate Rescue.

coco66 That's confusing because earlier in this thread its stated you can use the 3 banks independent of the rescue. Banks on channel 7 and rescue on Gyro channel 5. Now your saying Rescue and stabilization are on channel 5 Gyro.
Brain does Bank switching on channel 7 and rescue on channel 8. With auto level on any or all three banks. Now its true there auto level is very robotic and not adjustable and there rescue is still suspect. But there setup is more straight forward.
Really need clarification.

The first post was asking about the rescue mode (independent of flight modes). Yes, you can set Rescue for all 3 banks just by configuring the Function to Rescue for all 3 banks. Then you can turn it on and off anytime you wish (in any bank). You can configure there also any other function you wish and activate at any time and switch between them just by switching banks.
