Any idea if Futaba (18SZ, with r7008 rec.) or Spektrum (Dx8 gen 2 with ar8000 rec.) would be easier to setup? I will be needing to learn how to assign/align channels between radio(s) and Spirit setup software--have tried Futaba (s-bus)--things were not aligned--didn't try changing anything in radio at that time. Thanks very much.

If you are using default settings, then it should be without any adjustment. Personally I recommend Futaba (as it supports more features) but with Spektrum you do not have to change channel assignment for sure (because it is not possible).
All in all it is not too hard to assign channels correctly. I can tell you correct channel order so then you can update channel layout in the TX and it will work in the first try.

OK--will try Futaba first (receiver is already mounted). Can you give me channel line-up for Tx ? I assume I don't change any channels in the Spirit wizard--just the Futaba radio? Thanks a lot

Yes, you are right. No changes in the unit are needed.
In the futaba, please set the channel layout in the following way: 1 AILE 2 ELE 3 THR 4 RUD 5 GYRO 6 PIT
