Hi,

I've got a Problem with my Protos 500. Tailservo is a Align DS525M and i use Carbon tailblades, because with the original plastic ones the stopping behavior was really bad.

At first my Settings:
Rudder Common Gain: 1,00
Rotation Speed Rudder: 8
Rudder Delay: 10
Piro Consistency: 185
Rudder Dynamic: 6
Revomix: 0

Gyro Gain IDLE 1: 75%
IDLE 2: 65%
IDLE 3: 60%

The problem is the tail kick to the right side during pitch pumps, with more headspeed it gets even worse.
I set the gyro gains as high as possible, if I set it higher the tail starts to oscillate during fast curves.

The second problem are the stops after pirouettes counterclockwise... It´s not so bad but clockwise the stops are perfect so i would be awesome if it would be perfect counterclockwise, too. :D

I tried to fix it with more Piro Consistency but it only got a little bit better and i don't know if I should increase it even more.

Should a add revomix or change other parameters?

What I found really helping with my tail kicks is to add a few degrees pitch to the tail when at neutral / centre rudder. Make sure the servo horn is 90 degrees to the pushrod and adjust length to give it some countertorque. If it still kicks give it a few degrees more.

I've done this already because i also thought this would help.

At the end of the blade the gap is about 14mm, should I make the gap bigger or is this normally enough?

That seems reasonable- maybe bump it a couple of turns more on the pushrod.

Also the tail won't hold well if your headspeed is dropping during pitch pumps. Is your governor tuned well?

The biggest drop during the whole flight was 100 RPM so I guess thats not the problem.

Hello,

with Protos it is very important to make the tail as smooth as possible.
When kit is new, there are often 2 problems that must be solved first.

Make sure that the push rod is moving smoothly - there si absolutely no friction. With supplied ball reamer you can solve the issue.
Second issue is that usually the rod is touching in the O hole under stabilizer. You can move with the servo to make it better.

Another possibility is that tail slider not rotating freely (part with 2 bolts is problematic).

And last possibility is that there are two plastic parts (see the attachment) is too tight.

Configuring neutral position so that both tail limits will be equal (for example 110/110) can improve performance generally. Then there will be a slight angle when servo is in the center.

The servo is not the strongest so even the tiniest forces plays a big role.
You might need to add Revomix to 2-3 points (this should solve tail kick)

Pirouette Consistency to 175 can be better. Then you can increase Gyro Gain little bit.

Basically both mentioned problems are usually result of tight mechanics. I have many experiences with Protos heli, so I can help you as needed.

I can't find a mechanical Problem..
I think im going to try a Savox 1290MG.

Your servo should be fine, but Revomix might be needed as I have described. On the other hand Savox 1290 is too strong for this helicopter.
For the Protos I have very good experience with MKS DS8910A+. It is light and very fast servo.
But with your servo it will work well too - even older DS520 can work well, but mechanics must be extremely smooth.

I've tried Revomix 3 yesterday, it only got a little bit better. At the high headspeed (2500) I couldn't notice a difference between Revomix 0 and Revomix 3..
I don't know that much about Servos but a lot of people use this savox on a protos.
When I move the tail with my fingers it runs absolutely smooth so i really dont know what to do.

I recommend to disassemble all blades and unlink push rod from the rudder servo arm.

Then start the motor to the flying speed and move with the push rod by hand. Do you feel any force? I guess that there will be noticeable.
In this way you can find if there is some problem in the mechanics.

Unfortunately during spinning there could be significant difference. Even if everything is very smooth with no load, with load it can be much worse.
Then you will know what the servo has to do during flying.
