Hi.
I am a long-time vbar user (using vbar gov), giving Spirit a try. The unit flys well at this stage, but the GOV is giving me a lot more problems.

Question 1:
Why does soft-start not appear to apply when throttle is 1-49%? For me this is a big issue as I have disabled soft-start in my ESC. I entrust the Spirit to protect me from aggressive start-up at all times and the missing 1-49% range where this does not apply seems like a major issue for me. there is plenty of power to break helis in this range. I have always had normal startup in 'normal' mode (ie throttle controlled) but this is impossible with the spirit because it doesn't protect with slow spool-up in this range. I have change to GOV in all 3 modes now. but....

Question 2:
I flew the heli in GOV modes and throttle hold to landing. Throttle hold is set to 0%, bypassing any bailout implications. I left the heli sitting in TH whilst I messed with some settings for the tail (via bluetooth). once releasing throttle hold again, spool-up was extremely aggressive with near instantaneous start-up. This broke my heli (blew one-way bearing) - twice! This should be impossible. Even if bailout was active, I should not be able to break my heli when slow spool-up is enabled. unfortunately if #1 was in place, this would not have happened as normal mode would not have a gov in its lower throttle range, only upper. GOV would have been out of range and I would have spooled up using the throttle

When heli is first flown, spool-up is fine. But Im pretty sceptical about its actions at other times.
So pretty disappointed in the GOV spool-up at this stage.
How do I ensure that spool-up can never break my heli?

thx

extra question
What would happen if TH put the throttle channel below 0? (eg -3) I just noticed that my radio defaults to a negative value for TH. Does the Spirit deal with this correctly?
Thx

A comment about your last question: this you have to manage in the Diagnostic screen, when you tune your TX end points to make sure Spirit is reading the correct range. And the min of your range should be TH.

Hi
Spoolup works great, as long as Spirit is not seeing any wrong signal.
Out of hold, immediately a signal above 50% is required, otherwise spoolup process starts from this mid point. There is an issue with futaba receiver sending some wrong signals causing Spirit to start spool up from a wrong starting (idle) point. Issue got fixed by Tomas, but I don't know if its released yet.

Maybe if you got same problem, get in contact with Tomas.

I did my setup the way ESC doing spoolup, but Spirit for the governing and Autorotation Bailout.
I still believe it's the safest way and it really works great, I got 30 or more flights with this setup and AR training with no issues.

To be sure to not get into ARB activation, stay below 11,5% in you diagnostics screen for Hold. All what counts is what you see on diagnostics.
above 49% is Gov engaged, once Gov was engaged and you stay above 12%, ARB is active with fast spoolup, once TC goes below 11.5% next spoolup is normal.

In regards to Values below 0% on diagnostics.
Map you throttle to match 0%..100% on diagnostics, this will be mapped by Spirit to your min max setting towards ESC which are hard limits.
Which mean, values below 0% on diagnostics will not give any lower signal to ESC, as 0% is min range (think of mechanical Limit on combustion Servos) and beside, the hole FBL Setup concept is about min max ranges (rudder, cyclic ring, pitch,...)

Im going to hope that the issue of having hold go slightly negative is the issue. I will set this to be 0, or slightly above 0. Unfortunately this is the default the TX with a new model setup, and I hadnt noticed. it would hold at around -3 by default. However, if the Spirit cant cope with a negative throttle setting i think this should be fixed. Again, it should always have spoolup protection enabled, as long as bailout is not activated. it would be nice to have an adjustment for bailout spool-up speed (rather than an arbitrary 1/3). it looks like its too aggressive anyway.

BTW. not Futaba. Spectrum Satellites.

It can cope. I'm using -15% on my throttle cut switch. Throttle hold switch is set to 0%. Both need to be disabled to spool the heli up. Using flat T curves across all modes with Spirit governing the slow spool up.

So managed to get the heli flying again on short notice.
This time I was very careful on my throttle endpoints double checked them. And there is no possibility of getting into bailout mode and TH was set to 1%. I flew it around for quite a while with no issues and adjusted several other flight characteristics. All seemed well and it come in and out of TH and flight modes with slow spoolup working as expected.

After about the 5th auto in to adjust settings, the problem recurred. This time spoolup was near instantaneous, but the clutch held. The heli piro'd on the ground due to the torque and then turned over before I could stop it. Bye bye blades, boom and several links.

Enough is enough. i have learnt my lesson. The unit is for sale and I will move on. THE GOV CANNOT BE TRUSTED!
'Disappointed' is an understatement. This has been a true waste of time and money, especially considering I had this much trouble in only 3 flights!

FWIW. Think i found a strong pointer to the issue. "Slow" spool-up speed is far to slow for my liking. So I change to "Fast" (the next one up). The moment I did this, the problem occured. This was the same setting I was on with previous occurrences and my guess is that alot of users dont change this setting from slow so don't experience this issue. THIS SPOOL-UP SETTING HAS A FAULT.

thx

Using fast on my x3, no issues. A lot of people change it to fast on smaller helis
