The manual states use sub trim to get the tail servo arm at 90 deg and to then set rudder pitch to 0deg.
Can you confirm this is correct most other FBL units I have used require 2-3deg of pitch on the blades at centre for neutral performance in rate mode.

Please confirm which is the preferred setup for the Spirit.

There is no "preferred setup for the Spirit".

Just do what Your Heli manual suggests, either centered or 2/3 degrees of negative pitch...

I never set it, I make sure its centered, but some fbl units use this position for the failsafe. Don't know with the Spirit.

I feel this setting is relevant to the FBL controller rather than the Heli manual.

I would normally set the centre for neutral position in rate mode but was puzzled by the Spirit manual stating the following....

"It is also necessary to set the subtrim and mechanics of the rudder so that the servo horn is perpendicular to its case and rudder pitch is at 0°. This setting will affect rudder stop performance."

Maybe Tomas could confirm?

It is true, that we recommend what heli manual is saying.
Our FBL controller can fly with nearly any settings, but to obtain the best performance it is good to match helicopter mechanics.

Some helicopters such as Goblin, Logo, latest T-Rex are working significantly better with 3-4° neutral position.

Hi Tomas,

Thanks for your response, I have the Spirit installed on both a Goblin 380 and an Align 550 Dominator and I have set the 2-3 degree tail blade pitch so that the heli is still in rate mode. I am in the process of tuning the tail stopping performance to try and get it balanced in both directions.

I was just going to adjust the tail endpoints to improve the L/R balance but then noticed this suggestion in the manual of setting centre to give "0deg rudder pitch". Does this mean 0deg on tail blades or should it read neutral position?
Wouldn't the heli rotate then in rate mode?

This is not a major problem just trying to get some clarity.

Hi,

recommendation about 0° is rather for beginners - if you don't know how to set the mechanics, it is better to set it to 0° then in any other wrong way.
Some helicopters such as Align are well documented in the manual, so if there is some advice from the manufacturer I recommend to follow the instruction from their manual.
Yes, it will rotate in Rate mode with 0°, but for Spirit it is not a problem. Altough 3-4° may work significantly better with some models.

With a proper tail center, stopping behavior will be better as well. Changing servo arm length can also improve the performance a lot - from your end points values it can be determined if arm is too long or not.

ZeXx86, is the reason it works better because with offset of 3 degrees the servo horn is closer to 90 degrees at which your servo can move the fastest, in the stop range?

I had a Spirit Pro on T-rex 700E DFC. The tail stop was much better with a 3-4 degrees when the servo arms are 90.
Set the headspeed what you want to fly mainly. Set the spirit in rate mode, and hover. if it turning left or right with no input, land, andjust the pushrod lenght, and try again, until it stop turning in rate mode (or as close as you can get ). That is the perfect positive pitch for that specific headspeed on that heli. Now the tail will stop equally both sides.

I done this way the setup on 700E DFC, and 450L dominator. Both were perfect. Now i sold the 700, and have a Protos max, which has a measuring tool, to get the tail the perfect positive pitch. Spirit works very well on it.
