Hello,

I'm having a heck of a time getting endpoints set on my Castle Edge 75 Lite (firmware 4.22) and external BEC with the Spirit FBL (firmware 2.0.0)

My goal is to (at a minimum) use the Castle ESC as the Gov. But it would be nice to use the Spirit Gov as it is likely more responsive.

Now I'll give you a run down of what I have tried:

[From elfew]
1) Disabled Governor in Spirit (Save and Powercycle Spirit)
2) Set in TX throttle curve - linear curve 0% 25% 50% 75% 100% in the throttle curve tab
3) Lowered Range min and max in servo travel tab for throttle to 30% (for min and max)
4) Turn off the spirit (and ESC)
5) Turn off throttle hold, move your throttle stick to the max position AND POWER ON YOUR ESC AND SPIRIT
6) slowly add % in servo travel (throttle max) tab until you hear beeps from your ESC, then add two more % (2%) I don't get any beeps, and can no longer proceed with this
7) move your throttle stick to the lowest possition
8) slowly add % in servo travel tab until you hear beeps from your ESC, then add two more % (2%)

I also tried setting it up this way from Adrian
viewtopic.php?p=13782#p13782

I also tried this from over at Helifreak from Grumpy_Old_Man (Also I beleive this uses an older software/firmware version)
1) Put ESC into heli gov mode.
2) In Tx set a linear throttle curve 0%, 50%, 100%
3) In Spirit software back off the throttle travel to about +/-75%
4) Power down the heli.
5) Put throttle on Tx to wide open.
6) Power up the heli and connect Spirit software
7) Increase the + throttle travel in the Spirit software gradually up toward then beyond 100% (I needed 106%) until the ESC/motor 'beeps' to indicate that it's recognised the upper end point.Again, I don't get any beeps, and can no longer proceed with this
8) Fully close the throttle on the Tx
9) In Spirit software now increase the negative travel range up to then beyond -100% until the ESC/motor gives it's arming beeps (I needed about -135%)

Also tried this from Tomas (ZeXx86) on Helifreak, but it's likely I did it wrong because I think it is the old firmware. (% vs ms)
"You will need to use Throttle Range - Min. and Max. to make it work with CC. You can find this parameter in the Governor / Throttle settings in the General tab. You can configure -118% as Min., 108% as Max."

As far as I can tell I have everything set right, but it's not working...which leads me to believe that I don't have it right. If you guys would be willing to help out I would very much appreciate it. All I ask is that you spell it out for me, because for some reason or another I'm not getting it. If you need screenshots of the software or controller settings just ask.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Nathan

If you are on spirit version 2.0 forget about what got presented in old topics, as with 2.0 things are very different.
I use 4.22 on my edge as well, as fare as I see, from config point of view edge and egde lite are the same.

To make things easy, just forget about the mixer part for bailout in your (TX) transmitter.

1) With external BEC, have you disconnected red wire from ESC as said by CC wiring?
2) have you been able to setup diagnostics to match 0..100% in Spirit?
3) have you been able to set ESC in external gov mode with Castle Link?
4) is rpm out configured and white wire at right place on spirit (PIT middle PIN)?
5) have you set in spirit Gov Range min to 900us and max to 1930us? This is very important it tells how low and high it can go, its like mechanical Servo limit, not to bend anything. If this value is not low enough, you will never ever initialize, regardless what you do on TX side. This is very different to Spirit Version before 2.0.
6) have you got any beep from ESC? at least to wires have to be connected to motor to hear beep.

I can support you the best if, you let me know on what step you have got a question in regards to my guide:

Adrian, I'll put my answers in red.

1) With external BEC, have you disconnected red wire from ESC as said by CC wiring?
Yes I have.
2) have you been able to setup diagnostics to match 0..100% in Spirit?
I have. In my transmitter (DX9) they are 101-high and 99-low.
3) have you been able to set ESC in external gov mode?
I have.
4) is rpm out configured and white wire at right place on spirit?
I configured the wire in the Castle Software for "RPM Out"
5) have you set in spirit Gov Range min to 900us and max to 1930us? This is very important.
Yes I have.
6) have you got any beep from ESC? at least to wires have to be connected to motor to hear beep.
I get 6 beeps when I plug the battery into the ESC, but nothing after that. Even when I put the throttle stick high.

As far as your guide, I was able to get to get to "Spirit with Firmware 2.0 Preparation." The part I get stuck on is setting end points, it seems that my ESC is just not getting the signal/getting enough signal from the FBL. Therefore I never get a chance to set the endpoints and finish the setup.

I've attached a picture and some screenshots, just in case you see something I can't.

Thanks,
Nathan

For some reason, I couldn't upload all the photos...so here's a second post just for them.

File comment: The top Arrow is showing the Gov wire from the ESC, I had to make an extension to get it there, which is why it is red.

The bottom arrow is showing the red ESC wire pulled from the connector since I'm running a BEC.

What if you plug a Servo instead of ESC or with Y-cable, does it move as expected? This allowes you to see if there is a problem with ESC, Cabeling or Spirit.
You should see moving to initial position, after going out of hold, doing a little jump and than slowly going up to full position. You can do this with rpm out connected and/or disconected.
You need to enable Gov in spirit to see ramp up and jump. But even without Gov enabled you should see servo move following your throttle out from TX.
After adjusting min max and enabling gov save to unit is required. You migth also perform a power cycle.

it can be tricky with CC ,...

I would say forget about the int. Gov for now , turn that off
di you read the correct way to program end point with a CC .

lower your points to about 30 in your radio , high end point first , you may have to go up to 140 in your radio ( and or raise the high point in software Gov tab)

sorry I did not read everything so this was maybe covered ...

Adrian,

That did it!

Switching the Servo for the ESC worked, and the servo responded to stick movement. So that left the wiring/ESC.

I started from the Spirit and worked my way to the ESC pulling all the wires. Well it was my fault, I had a Castle QuickConnect...and I had the wires backward (the quick connect was going to the Spirit, and I was using the ESC connector for the quick connect.

After I connected them correctly, It worked right away with your settings for the Spirit throttle (900min, 1930max).

Now I can finish out the rest of your guide and have the Spirit govern my heli!

Thank you for your help, it is very much appreciated!

Glad I could help and it works now.
Please add [solved] to the title, so others can find and benefit.
