I'm using a DX9 with AR7610 receiver with sat with my new Spirit.
I have my Gaui X3 set up with the Spirit with the following configuration on the DX9. Hold (switch H) for throttle cut. Switch A for rescue. F-mode for switch position 0, normal, position 1, IU with 80% throttle, position 2 (IU2) 95% throttle.

What I would like to have is maintain switch A for rescue and switch H for Hold, but, have F-mode switch to be a banks switch to have position 0, normal, position 1, 80% throttle, and position 2 (IU2) to be stabilization.

I understand to switch to banks switching I have to re assign gyro channel to unassigned and banks channel 7 to channel 5.
I have an understanding about then having to configure gyro settings for each channel, positive and negative.

But I'm doing something wrong and can't figure it out.

Can this be done? Can someone take me through the steps of this procedure? I've invested hours in this, reading the paperwork and researching online. I'm not getting it.

I have a DX9 and here is what I did:

I kept the flight modes for normal, IU1, and IU2 throttle setup, and I used banks for stability, rescue, and acro rescue. The steps:

1. In the Spirit software, activate banks and assign channel 7 to banks. Then assign one bank each to stability, rescue, and acro rescue. Gyro is set to transmitter.

2. In the DX9 go to System Setup, Channel Assign, assign Gyro to 5 GEAR. Go to bottom of screen and click NEXT and at 7 AUX2, choose a three position switch and assign that to 7 AUX2. This switch will select your banks. Exit back to your model in the DX9.

3. Go to GYRO in DX9. For Chan, select Gear. For Switch, select the three position switch that you assigned to 7 AUX to select banks. For the GYRO values, enter the values for the GYRO gain that you choose for the banks. To determine which switch position corresponds to which bank, click the switch and see which bank is selected in the Spirit software Diagnostic page. For stability the gain is entered as a negative number. For rescue and acro rescue, a positive number. I used -65 for stability, and 65 for both rescue and acro rescue for my X3. Exit GYRO.

4. Go to Mixing in DX9 for the model. Select a new mix i.e. P-Mi x 1. Click on it and then click on Normal in the next screen. Set INH > INH to GER > GYR. Set Rate to -100% 100%. Set OFFSET to -65%. This number should be the same the GYRO number but negative in value. For switch, select your rescue switch. The mix should be active now when the switch is pushed. This changes the gain from positive to negative which then activates rescue.

This completes the setup. In stability mode bank, the gain is alway negative so stability is always on. To turn off stability, switch to either the rescue or acro rescue bank. To test, go to Servo Setup in the DX9 and check the GYR value. In stability, the value should be -65. In both rescue and acro rescue the value should be 65, and when the rescue switch is pressed, the value should change to -65. Also with your heli powered up the pitch should change appropriately depending on your rescue mode and orientation.

I haven't done this but I believe that if you want to tie the banks to F modes, just select the same switch that you use for F modes for banks. That way you tie the Gyro values and banks to F modes and head speeds.

There are probably other ways to set the DX9 up but this is the way that I figured out how to do it.

Please test with the motor disconnected or throttle hold on and make sure everything works the way it should before flying (also double check pirouette optimization).

Is it necessary to assign the "bank" function in the Spirit software to a channel to get the banks to work as you've described?

Also I see you've used -65%, 65% and 65% for your X3. You wouldn't have any idea if those values were suitable for a larger (550) sized help?

Sorry but I'm fairly hopeless with setting these transmitters up!

You have to set Gyro Gain for each helicopter individually. But generally you can start with 60% Gyro Gain and then increase it until you can observe any oscillation.

To enable Banks you have to assign channel in the software always.

I have setup my DX9 the way that Ben M has described except that for me, Bank0 is Rescue (Normal), Bank1 is Stabilisation (Normal) and Bank2 is Stabilisation (Acro).
How can I now program my DX9 so that, when I'm in Bank1 or Bank2 and I flick the swich, which in Bank0 is set for Recue, the Bank changes to Bank0 and Rescue is activated and when I release the switch, Spirit returns to whichever Bank I was before (Bank1 or Bank2).

As I understand, you would like to jump back to Bank0 with Rescue (neg Gyro) out of any Bank by pressing your Recovery button. I do the same, not based on exactly your setup, but it might help to understand what I did to adapt.

Add a mixer like you did for Inverting Gyro to mix Bank to -100 (Bank0).
What it does, by pushing Button A, Aux2 gets allays -100%.
In my setup:
Mix 3: AX2 => AX2 / Rate: 0% -100% / Offset 100% / Active on Switch A

Note on negative Gyro value:
Normal Gyro 55%, but I use as Offset for Rescue a lower value, like -40%. Reason, I like to leave motor, ESC and BEC power to cyclic stabilization and don't care on nice rudder holding performance during rescue, as this requires power as well. All what's relevant on rescue, to get main rotor horizontal and away from ground.

I don't like absolute values in gyro mixers, as it's different on each model, as Tomas said.
I use just to mixers for the Gyro. Mix 1 to neutralize Gyro pos values, Mix 2 to set desired proportional value, where I only use 80%.

Mix 1: GER => GYR / Rate: -100% 0% / Offset 0% / active on Switch A
Mix 2: GER => GYR / Rate: -80% 0% / Offset 0% / active on Switch A
