I feel like there is no progress lately. No more discussion, no more ideas, no more implementation. I see no posts at the helifreak thread for the last couple of months and no newer version with governor and/or new stuff from wishlist; although the governor itself has been announced more than a couple months ago. Anyway, I can't say I'm not satisfied with my unit but seeing the competition arise, I'm starting to think of new ideas. I think it would be time for a gps module and a firmware that takes advantage of it, providing "auto rescue" never allowing the helicopter go below a preset altitude, maybe a "return to home mode" and other stuff...
It may seems a bit too much of a request for an already good unit with nice implementation of rescue "in demand", but I see that the hobby moves rapidly forward and sooner or later what skookum (sk-gps) has for some time now, will be mainstream before we even realize it. Of course that would mean a lot of other things too, for example, a perfect, flawless implementation of the code. Also, the right price, because one of the main reasons that not everybody has a skookum unit with gps on their helis (which would prevent all pilot-caused crashes) is the extremely overpriced gps module.
Anyway I'm quite satisfied with spirit's prices since it has the cheapest rescue implementation although it came out way sooner than other major brands did(microbeast, mikado etc). Yet, there are already rumors that microbeast after adding resuce to their new unit, have a gps module in development. So I'd like to ask our developers how close would we be to consider something like that going on for spirit too. I'd like to hear people's opinion too...

"auto rescue" never allowing the helicopter go below a preset altitude is already possible 8-)

All you need is a telemetry capable TX + altimeter

Oh shit! I'm really sorry I didn't think of that solution. I should have because I use Taranis which has telemetry and I was indeed aware that they also provide altimeters if you like, so yes I should have thought of this solution prior asking for a gps module. Yet, I like to know if this was possible from the very first moment that spirit came out, or -if not- when did it became available? I mean on which FW version? I guess that unit-wise it would only require a rescue function and since rescue was there from the very first moment, it was possible from day zero for someone who had a Tx with telemetry and altimeter, right? Thanks again!
