Today I had a tail failure. I was sat in a stable hover at the time. A link snapped leaving the tail with no control. The heli spun round fast. I hit throttle hold, and auto'ed to the ground, only slightly bending the boom as I'm not a good flyer :D

So this got me thinking; if the tail is completely lost, e.g. there's no tail control at all, and the heli is inverted and moving,
can the spirit:

a) recover to skids down?
b) return to home? (if fitted with a geolink)

I know that expecting the spirit to recover from a mechanical failure is a bit above normal operation. I don't expect it will, but just wondered if it could recover without tail control.
No idea how you could ever test that.

For full control of the movement of the heli you need all the controls to work. Otherwise it will never work.

I have experienced this exact issue. I had the tail fail in flight, and by using rescue repeatedly while also "sort of auto rotation" down by turning off the motor I was able to "crash gently". The Gaui X3 was rotating but he cyclic was flat. If I was better at the auto-rotation I might not have broken the skids, but given what would have happened before having rescue this was a win.

I also crashed the X3  Gotta watch that tail on the X3. The skids are really weak; attach them with zip ties instead of screws. They last longer.
