Post subject:  6 deg geometry setup question

When I'm at step 8 in the wizard setup and adjusting the value to reach 6 degrees, what is wrong with my setup when I have -6 showing when the gauge is on the back blade, but when I swing the head around 180 degrees and have 10.9 degrees when the blade is forward?

All the other setup values seems pretty close.

Thanks.

Hello,
at first have you 90° of your servo arms to your linkage ?
have you leveled your swashplate corectly with a swash leveler tool ?
Do you have at mid stick on both blades 0° ?

This is basic task at first before adjusting other things -

Regards

your helicopter is not standing completely horizontal (which is normal)... you have to level the pitch gauge (best on the motor can) before every measurement. and be sure to be exactly at 0° on the TX and on the rotorhead before the measurement. swash leveled 0° of course.

The servo arms visually appear to be 90 deg to the servo cases when adjusting the swash to level in step 7 of the wizard. I'm using the cable-tie around the main shaft approach to make this measurement as I don't have an official swash leveler tool for this Gaui X3. The swash appears to be very level after this was completed.

The work bench is very close to perfectly flat according to a bubble level I have used for heli setups before. I have a RC Logger type digital pitch gauge and when I put this on the tail boom or motor can top or the CF frame pieces near the motor, in both directions I'm within 1 degree of 0. I use the zeroing button on the gauge before checking angles at that point.

Personally, I like to set the collective pitch first Step 9 of the wizard. With the DX9 pitch curve set to 0, 50, 50,50, 100 to ensure level with at mid-stick I check both blades during this process and needed to pop off the ball links and turn in half-turns to adjust both blades to reach this to 0 degrees at mid-stick. I have only basic linkage rods - not left and right threaded type infinitely adjustable rods. I was able to get to within sub 0.2 degrees of level on both blades at mid-stick. I then check max/min aiming for 12 deg of collective range and I can get within about 0.3 degrees +/- on each blade at max/min collective. All seems good so far.

I then return to step 8 for the 6 deg setup and with the RC Logger again set to zero on the motor can / CF frame, and the blade towards the back - I adjust to -6 degrees. This is where when rotating the head around to blade forward I'm way off from 6 degrees.

I will double check this again and make sure the 50 PC values on the DX9 are showing 0 value on the Spirit setup tool. I will also check my other heli's that are setup with a Spirit and flying to confirm they show 6 deg both forward and back on Step 8.

Thanks for your input and thoughts.

many times we think that you have set everything up correctly but indeed we were wrong.
follow the order of the wizard of the various settings.

to make 0 :
1) move subtrim tuning to put all 3 servos straight (uniball in line with the screw)
2) the linkage rod servo as straight as possible (it depends on the hole you use)
3) whatever position the rotor turns the levers they must be perfectly in line and swashplate perfectly straight

4) in any position you position the blades they must have the same level

100% sure the problem it's here, you follow these steps and after the geometry will be fine
this settings with all the curves 0-25-50-75-100 and dr ed expo deactivated

Hello,

in your rotor head I can still see problem.
The 2 push rods that are controlling main blades are still in a very big angle. They should be stright from side you made the photo.
I think the problem is in too short ball that are coming from blade holders.
Your setup looks much better now - 3 push rods are looking nicely, but this one thing still remain to be resolved.

Thanks for the detailed info and photos. Over the weekend I checked another heli and it was the same 6 degrees forward and back.

Went through it all again and got closer but still off. I have now removed all the items and am checking them for issues, and re-installing from scratch. What is strange about this experience is I have been using Spirit's since they first rolled out their product and setting up FB and other FBL systems before then. This is not my first setup.

to franz88:
I think this is what you need for your main rotor blade grips.

Align H50129
http://www.benovoletadylka.cz/sada-kulovych-cepu-h50129-pro-trex-500fl-p-2077.html
... and then of course I would turn them around and put the rods so that they were on the leading edge

habasek they are the uniballs which I have already installed and they are not good.
ZeXx86 I must change the hands mainds.
I've been surfing the web for days to find them.
I'm italian and In the end i managed to find the pieces I need in Germany. (main head trex 500x all bearings, washers ecc are compatible 100%)
they should arrive within 5 days and in the end I will have this head.

the swashplate it won't be anymore reversed

Your blade grips should have "Align" printed on them as shown in the picture above. This should be at the top. As others have mentioned you have them installed upside down (reversed). This will orientate the blade links to be on the leading edge. Not the trailing edge as you have now. This is the source of your problem.
