Post subject: | Gyro Location |
I looked through all of the entries in this topic and didn't find where anyone asked this specific question. I am pretty sure I know the answer and will continue on my work to build a suitable mounting plate. Can the gyro be mounted ahead of the main shaft? My helicopter will eventually be installed in a fuselage and if it is mounted in the normal location behind the main shaft I will never be able to get at it to hook it up to the computer for making any adjustments without doing an awful lot of work. But I have a nice space ahead of the main shaft and directly over top of the servos to place it. This is a 600ESP based machine so the elevator/anti-rotation arm is in front of the shaft as well and the mount will be just a bit in front of that. It will be flat and on the center line of the mechanics and right angle to the main shaft. I suspect that is all okay. It will be closer to the main shaft than the standard location but still 2 and a half or three inches away. -Barry |

As long as you place the Spirit perpendicular to all 3 axes of the heli any place should be fine |

Indeed, you can put the unit anywhere. Mounting place must be just rigid, shouldn't flex in any way and should be perpendicular to all 3 axes. To solve your issue, you can use cable extension connected to the SYS position, so you can configure the unit easily even with fuselage. |

I really wished the plugs could have been at the end having them on top creates these wire loops that makes this hard to mount in a few places |
