My setup is a Spirit GT with the main RX being a Spektrum 4651T and it works well. I initially bound an SPM 9747 satellite by having it plugged in to SAT2 (SAT1 has my HW ESC connected).

However I've been getting a load of fades so was checking the setup... I unplugged the 4651T and although the 9747 stayed lit up, the Spirit went in to fail safe. No control with the sat alone.

Unless I've missed something, the Spirit manual doesn't explain how to bind both the 4651T and 9747 at the same time.

I'd be very grateful for some help in being able to get the 9747 bound properly as a redundant receiver in tandem with the 4651T!

Hello,

very likely you are testing the setup so that you are powering with SAT2 only.
This will not work, because primary receiver that is at ELE/PIT/AIL port normally must be present during power up.
Then after initialization you can plug it off and check again if satellite at SAT2 will work.

Thanks for the quick reply Tomas.

When testing this, I initialised the Spirit with both the 4651 and 9747 connected.

My test was unplugging the 4651 after initialisation. In this condition, the 9747 remains lit but control is lost and the Spirit goes in to failsafe.
As soon as I plug the 4651 in again, control is restored.

Do I need to plug a bind plug in to the Spirit to properly bind the satellite, or can you just use the bind button with SRXL2?

Should I try binding it in SAT1 first?

So I've now tried the following:

--Updated the 9747 to latest firmware 2.44 (the 4651T was already on this)
--Tried binding the 9747 to the SAT1 and SAT2 ports
--Tried binding the 9747 at the same time as the 4651T
--Updated my DX9 from 2.05 to the latest 2.08 firmware.

In each case the Spirit is initialised first with the 4651T connected and the 9747 and/or 4651T bind successfully.

Nonetheless, whatever I try the model goes in to failsafe if I unplug the 4651T after initialisation. The 9747 stays lit, but just doesn't pick up from the main RX and control is lost.
My DX9 RX telemetry page only shows fades for one antenna "A" and no "B".

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong (I'd be very happy for you to point that out if it fixes my problem!), but it seems that you can't run any satellites with Spirit and the 4651T?

Hello,
I am using the 4651T alone and it works like by you - a configuration with additional 9747 I haven't tried it yet, but I would also want to use it on a larger helicopter, such as a 700 helicopter -
My question is have you the 4651T connected to the right inputs ?
see here in manual: http://manual.spirit-system.com/index.php?title=Spektrum_SRXL2 ?
The other satellite (9747) you have to connect to sat1 or sat2 port with this cable:
https://store.spirit-system.com/en/accessories/54-srx2sat-cable.html
In this description you see that this will work then if you have an µSpirit, Spirit Pro or Spirit 2 unit - see in the description in this side - I don't know if the GT works with this cable -

@Tomas: Is this limited for the use with µSpirit, Spirit Pro or Spirit 2 ?

In terms of binding, the spirit unit is actually not needed, both the 4651T and the 9747 have a bind button - binding is just a matter between the transmitter and the receiver. I am assuming that you supply both receivers with a voltage (at the same time), for example with 4.8 V (4xNiMh), then press the respective bind button and then bind the remote control with the corresponding model memory (system / binding) -
I think that you should have both satellites in operation at the same time, otherwise it won't work -

@Tomas: Maybe you have an good idea too how it can work in case that doesn't work that way -

Best Regards
Matthias

Hello Matthias!

Some people say they fly a 550-size on just one receiver, but I'd prefer to have the 9747 working as well for piece of mind.

For the wiring, I made up my own version of the SRXL2 adapter cable for the main receiver - the 4651T. I setup and initially flew the model on this setup, so I'm certain it's correctly wired.
I also made my own version of the SRXL2 Satellite adapter for the 9747. It lights up and binds fine, I just can't control the model with it alone as per my problem. I took a lot of care to ensure I'd wired it correctly as I didn't want to fry it or the Spirit. I'll double check it but I'm pretty sure it's wired OK as well.

On the topic of binding, I can get the RX and sat to bind to the DX9, it's just that the sat doesn't seem to contribute to signal reception. Perhaps I should change the title of the thread...

Maybe it's a Spektrum issue?

Hello,

tomorrow I will let you know more details. We will test it with the same receivers.
If LED light of the receiver is solid, then it should output data.

Just checking in to see if you've had chance to take a look at this issue and/or have an update Tomas?

I have a friend with the same Spektrum setup, and another Spektrum guy whom is looking to buy a Spirit, but is waiting for an answer to this issue before they decide.

Cheers,

Mike

It seems that it is working without any issue for us.
However I have to point out that Spektrum do not recommend running 2 SRXL2 sats because both are transmitting telemetry.
Also SPM9747 is not designed for helicopters. Range is lower than for 4651T.

Preferably full size receiver and sat are always the best solution and recommended by Spektrum.
