I have a Spirit II with Geolink that the previous owner believes reset in flight causing a crash.

I am testing it on the bench, only the Spirit II and Geolink are powered by a bench power supply.

When I watch the Map screen in the PC software it will occasionally switch from the Map screen to the Update screen like I clicked on it to perform a firmware update. It seems to happen anywhere from 10 seconds to several minutes while watching the location dot on the Map screen.
When this happens the Module, Map and Aid menu options are greyed out, I have to select the Info screen and can then select the Map screen again see where it is located.

Is this expected behavior at all, I would have expected it to stay at the Map screen as long as I have it powered up.

The Spirit II has version 3.3.3 and has been reset to defaults
The Geolink has firmware 1.2.1

Hello,

The behavior you described is not correct, it should stay in the map tab all the time. However it is not a reason for any trouble when flying.
I would verify the cable that is connecting GeoLink. Is this stock cable?

GeoLink can't reset in flight, but it could possibly stop working completely due to important issue. This is indicated by flashing LED light on the GeoLink.
However it should never cause any crash. It will only turn all GeoLink features off if this will happen and you can continue in a normal flying.

On the other hand, if there is some important issue it could affect also Spirit unit and then model can crash and can't be controlled.
The most common is voltage drop or high static discharge. GeoLink is usually mounted at the tail boom which is the biggest source for discharges. So grounding the model if there is a belt is very important.

If it is high static discharge then it is dangerous also for the Spirit unit.
Running motor without main blades for a while can be helpful. You could observe kicks when flying or intermittent loss of control if this issue is present in a high extent.

I have also tested the Spirit II by itself connected to my PC. In its default state with the PC link connected I have had it report an unstable connection. However when I configured the Spirit II to use a DSMX remote and had that connected I've not had it report the unstable connection at all. This leads me to think it is related to the firmware in the Spirit II unit itself.
I would say it is possible static was the cause of the original crash.

btw, all cables are in good condition and I tried another one, no change in performance. The power supply used in testing is a Keysight E36313A that I have 100% confidence in.
The Geolink LED has never flashed, it just shows solid for a locked signal or no LED if there was no signal.

All testing was performed where I believe there was a weak GPS signal. I was also wondering if that was a possible cause of the screen going back to the firmware page.

Right now I can say I don't have full faith in the Spirit II or Geolink.

Hello,

actually it is better to test where GPS signal is not present at all.
If you are having unstable connection even without GeoLink connected than there is really some issue. Very likely with the USB interface cable.

In any case we can verify both units if you can send them to us.

What are the causes of Geolink blinking and stop working? (normal flight ok)
I have seen this several times with my Spirit Pro and Geolink unit. XL Power 550 helicopter.
