Post subject:  Spirit reinitalize during BEC test

Hi,

I have a T-Rex 450L with a CC Edge 50 LV w/ an integrated BEC. The throttle wire is connected to the Spirit AUX port and a Futaba telemetry receiver is connected through the inverter cable to the Spirit RUD port. The Spirit unit has version 1.1.0.

When I start the BEC Tester I also watched the receiver voltage on my transmitter telemetry display. The voltage started with 5.9 Volts and just drops to 5.7 Volts after around 67% of BEC test. Then around 67 ... 68% of the BEC test the Spirit unit reinitalized. The voltage on my transmitter telemetry display did not drop below 5.7 Volts. I repeated the test multiple times and it always reinitalized at the same percentage of the BEC test.

I check the Spirit log file but there is nothing that indicates something like a low voltage error.

How could it be that the Spirit unit reinitalizes although the BEC voltage seems not to drop under a critical level?

Thanks,
Pexy

Hi,

I am afraid, but widely used telemetry sensors are not able to read voltage drops very fast. There is refresh rate approx 200 - 500ms, while voltage level may drop to even zero between this period.
If you add capacitor to the unit/receiver, it may solve the issue (4700uF can do the job).

Please check temperature of the servos.

Get capacitor as mentioned which may help or go to cc bec which will def work.

Another test you can do is lower voltage to 5. This will demand less from your bec. If you pass test then you know your ibec is inadequate for running at higher voltage. Cap will help, but only for so long until it runs out of power, so you could potentially still brown out.

I have the same ESC on a Compass Warp and it also failed the BEC test. Was looking at an external BEC but tried a Cap and it sorted the issue. Much less expense and simply plugs into the spare RUD Port on my Sat setup unit. Have run the test many times without issue with the Cap installed.
I guess time will tell if it is a good solution but as the Warp is my Basher I'm taking the chance that all will be good.
I think if it was a larger Heli I'd be looking at a good quality external BEC as insurance.
