Post subject:  Altimeter activated Bail Out

I want to know if it is possible activate the Spirit bail out in automatic mode
by an altimeter sensor in order to avoid a crash?
This could be a great option when training new moves
I know there is a tread in another forum about this matter
but I would like the direct support of the Spirit staff
in this matter, so I am asking:
Can this really works?
How can I implement this option with a Spektrum DX9 Radio?
I appreciate all the advice you can provide
Thank you in advance
Jose

Im not sure that it is good idea. Standart RC altimeter is slow for rescue heli. :(

Yes, the altimeter slow speed rate is the problem with this idea, but I think you can set the altitude value high enough to give the needed time to the altimeter system to kick in;
the real question is how high?
I have saved my heli with the Spirit bail out from 2 meters hight, so if you set the altimeter to 10 meters maybe you can give the system a good margin to trigger the bail out and avoid the crash?

Hi.

It should be definitively possible with some altimeter telemetry sensor that you can change the channel value when height is too low.

I think it is worth a try, so I'll try to make it work with the telemetry system of Spektrum,
I will report here the results obtained when the sensor arrives to my address

I am gone for work but will be back next week and will be doing this.

It was brought up on Helifreak and I think it is a very simple solution to replicate a hard deck that is only offered by a very expensive alternative currently.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, especially with some of the barometric sensors we have now. I will report my results back next week and share the information of how to set this up with the Taranis.

I also thought the altimeter could trigger an early warning alerts, for example with a vibration at the transmitter, say on reaching 5 meters high
This could force a reaction in the pilot to activate manually the bailout system before approaching dangerously down, a kind of last warning
I found this type of useful alert in the battery voltage monitors that emit a strong sound when the battery reach a preset low voltage, causing an appropriate action in the pilot

Post subject:  Re: Altimeter activated Bail Out new information available..

Hello all,
I see the last entry in this topic was in March 2015...
since then there is a lot of new technology and this is now a viable solution for some with Taranis, Jeti, and one other TX DX9?. But not or any other brand of TX.

We all know Tomas and team can accomplish miracles, and make life much easier at great value! Here's a great opportunity to do so again.

Tomas, and others, when you get a moment, can anyone post some information on how they achieved doing a hard deck bail out with Spirit Pro using your setup?

I am especially interested in a solution for those of us who do not know how to program Taranis radios, or have Jeti radios?

This would be a real game changer and a huge advantage if this could be done with Spirit Pro Tomas, in an easy fashion if that is possible.

Check out this post on another forum, where lots of progress has been made and achieved this goal:(But only with Taranis and Jeti's...)
http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=721237

Tomas, JMann, Coco, or anyone, if this is something that can be done with Spirit Pro, we need a how to guide on what is needed, and can it be done with JR, Spektrum, and general use transmitters that the majority of us own, as this would be an awesome way to to fly with this feature.

This is April 2017 two years after the last post above, hopefully there is new news or progress on achieving this goal of Altimeter (Vario Sensor, etc) bail out at specified hard deck. Spirit Pro already has self level with auto climb out built into it, we just need the sensor or ability to sense altitude either in Spirit Pro or add on vario altitude sensor to Spirit Pro with the necessary programming to achieve the end results for those of us who have Transmitters that are not Taranis or Jeti. BTW, the link above does show solutions that do work today for Taranis, Jeti ....

Tomas, can you or your team provide any insight to this request at this time?

I look forward to any replies!
Thanks, Dave
