Post subject:  Mac OS Big Sur - Spirit Settings not detecting USB-interface

Hi all.
Upgraded from Spirit Settings 3.2.2 to 3.3.2-r2 after upgrading mac to Big Sur and now it does not connect anymore to unit Spirit2 via the USB programming cable. Have Mac OS Big Sur 11.5.2 build 20G95.

Have tried installing the CP210xVCP Driver for Big Sur but neither USB-driver 6.0.0 nor 6.0.1 installs correctly. Installation of the CP210xVCP Driver displays Error Message (see attached screen shots for 6.0.0 and 6.0.1 error messages). CP210xVCP Driver seems to be placed in the /Program Files folder but nothing in Library/Extentions folder and nothing in System/Library/Extentions folder. There is also no obstructed extention file to Allow access in Mac OS System Settings Personal Security Pane. Have tried Legacy Driver and the Trouble Shooting Driver too, both after uninstall and reboot without luck. Have tried to give the driver full disk access too but still not working. Have even tried to copy Library/Extentions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext and Library/Extentions/SiLabsUSBDriver64.kext from another installation on a Mac with OS Catalina, but still no luck.

Unfortunately I deleted the old Spirit Settings 3.2.2 file during installation of 3.3.2-r2 so now I am not able to downgrade back to 3.2.2 (is 3.2.2 or other older Spirit Settings files available for download somewhere?)

Also have a brand new Wifi-module, but that too is not talking to the Spirit2-unit because it is too old(? Green pcb) and therefore not talking to Spirit2-units.

So really stuck and not sure what to do next...

Anyone who knows a solution for this Big Sur issue?

Post subject:  Re: Big Sur - Spirit Settings not connecting

I uninstalled the original driver with the included "uninstall.sh" script, then rebooted the Mac - Important!
Now reinstall the driver using one directly from Silicon lab - https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-t ... cp-drivers
Connect using Spirit-Settings and the result can be seen in the attached picture:)
Oh, and yes the driver is now stored in the Applications folder and NOT in the extensions one. I also bashed my head on that one for a bit before just uninstalling and trying again..

Hi yufasa

Thanks for trying to help me out. I appreciate that.

Unfortunately it didn't work for me. Have tried to uninstall the driver both manually and through the different un-installers in terminal maybe ten times, included reboots, but still the installation gives the same error message.

It seems that you are running the macOS12, maybe that can make a difference for me too?
Otherwise have also thought maybe to roll back the entire OS to Catalina to avoide the very strict security introduced in Big Sur.

Seems like the core of this issue has to do with something in the OS obstructing the USB-driver from being properly installed...

Will let you know if I find out something more.
Still appreciating any good trick pulled out from someones sleeve...

Hi,

i guess the user u are working with is admin? what you could try is to create a new user with admin rights and then try the installation process with this user (fresh download directly from silabs => 6.0.1)

nb: i had trouble with 1st install on BigSur (6.0.0 driver)... uninstall / reboot / driver 6.0.1 solved it for me.

Ciao
Michael

Very interesting suggestion HeliMLM, thanks a lot.
Switching user sometimes cleans up messy privileges.

Unfortunately not this time:

Tried first creating new admin-user-->Uninstall with 6.0.0-->reboot-->reinstall with 6.0.1, same error.

Tried secondly to activate root-user-->Logged in as root-->Uninstall with 6.0.0-->reboot-->reinstall with 6.0.1, same error.

Even tried to move installation file outside the image container, opened the package content and run the installer app in terminal as root user, but still same error...

Have no idea whats wrong...

Here are the error messages attached:

Hi

strange... you've tried +/- what i would have tried too. maybe check with Silabs community? it's clearly a Silabs<>OS X problem... could well be they already saw that once and have a fix/workaround?

Ciao

Hello,

beta version of the OSX is not supported by SiLabs yet. It is needed to wait for new USB driver.
Or you can get Spirit Wifi-Link that will allow communication always.

Hi ZeXx86, thanks for your reply.

Would very much like to use the Wifi-link module instead of the USB-interface.
In fact I bought a Wifi-module some months ago, but it will not connect to my Spirit2 unit, according to the topic "Wifi connection" because the module is too old (!) (type green PCB):

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4789&hilit=wifi+link&start=0

Do you have any suggestions how I can get my outdated Wifi-link module up and go, to be able to access my Spirit2 again?

Best regards.

You can send the module to us or change two SMD resistors yourself if you have enough experience.
We can do the upgrade for the shipping cost.
