Post subject:  Slow piro rate in normal mode

Hi there,
I just finished my maiden with my first spirit fbl in a T Rex 470 LP.
So far I like it very much.
I noticed that when switching to rate mode, the piro rate is almost too slow to fly, lets say 20 degrees in a second.
In HH everything seems fine so far.

So my question is, if this is a hint to a problem or is it considered as ok ?

Best wishes from Aachen, Frank

I the rotation rate in any way related to the gyro gain output from the radio? That is to say... if I had -50% versus -100% in rate mode... does the -100 increase the yaw rate?

Also, off topic somewhat, but slightly related... why does the Spirit2 disable rate mode when stability or rescue is enabled. I understand that for a 6 channel system the reason was to use the gyro channel and set a negative value to trigger rescue or stability... however, if you assign rescue to another channel, why can I not get rate mode back?

At the moment yaw axis rate mode is not possible when rescue or stability is enabled. Not a big deal, just curious.

So I just tried rate mode on the bench and find that the tail blade pitch does not reach the same 45 degrees I see when in heading hold mode. The travel is limited in rate mode.

Not sure what is causing that yet.

But it would explain why your yaw rate is lower in rate mode.

Ok after another 5 minutes of looking at the rate mode travel limits... I now realize that the Spirit needs to see more negative throw from the radio. I had to increase the maximum output for the gyro gain channel from -100% to -120%. That allowed the full range of tail travel in rate mode.

So maybe has something to do with how the Spirit looks at the gyro gain: there’s that rudder common gain parameter that you can tune to scale the radio to Spirit gain, maybe that was my clue.
