Heli Hardware: Spirit 2, Futaba T16SZ Radio with 7008SB, Roxxy 940-6 S.bus esc (It Connect to spirit 2 „aux 1 „ port), hobbywing rpm sensor, align 460MX-1800KV (6 pol, gear ratio 121:11), 6S Lipo

Software Settings: Pls see attached photos
On T16SZ, I use the „idleup1“ mode to set the flat throttle curve.
On The „Normal“ mode, when the throttle reach middle positions (50%), the rotor rpm is about 2500 rpm (I use additional Futaba SBS01RM, same rpm)

Issues:
I „think“ the governor does not work at all :-(
The rpm ist not really stable, and the „current rpm = 2410 rpm „ is far away from „requested rpm =1718“

questions:
1. Are my settings on Spirit and T16SZ correct ?
2. how to set the „requested rpm“ ? I do not know where this „1718“ has been set and where it can be set? (Based on the value, I think it near to 3150 x 55% (T16SZ’s idleup 1 throttle setting = 55%)
Should I increase the „maximum head speed“ on Spirit to 5000??
3. why the „current rpm „ is much higher than „requested rpm „ ?

Could anyone help me? Great thanks!

Hello
The Hertz of the throttle frequency must be 120. it is written in the manual and not 60 with Hw Esc.

Throttle Frequency: 120Hz.
Throttle Range - Min.: 1100 us.
Throttle Range - Max.: 1940 us.
Have you connected the yellow cable of the ESC output to the Spirit?see manual section Hw esc http://manual.spirit-system.com/index.p ... RPM_output
If you don't connect that cable, the ruler of the spirit governor will never know the exact rpmss of your esc,
so your rpms output will be the one decided by the percentage of th on the radio.

Hi Pino74,
thanks for your quick help.

1. Question about ESC RPM output:
I could not find the rpm output wire/port/pin form Roxxy 940-6-SV-Futaba-s.bus (https://www.multiplex-rc.de/produkte/31 ... ba-s.bus-2 , manual: https://www.multiplex-rc.de/Downloads/M ... -fr-it.pdf )
where I could found the Herz info? i will try the 120Hz :-)

2. can SPIRIT 2 read data (e.g. Telemetrie data like rpm, voltage, current ...) from S.BUS ESC or servo?
becuase i have a CGY760R, this 940-6 esc provide RPM through S.Bus to futaba FBL and transmitter.
but it seems that this feature does not works for SPIRIT, i.e. SPIRIT can communicate with S.BUS ESC or servo using S.BUS protocoll, right?

3. RPM comes from an extra "Hobbywing RPM sensor", which connect directly to 2 motor phase wires.
( https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/product ... =219217336 )
as in the screen shot above, the "SPIRIT Setting" the "current RPM could be read correctly. i suppose it works fine. and Spirit get the rpm data also correctly.

4. if the "requested rpm" 1718rpm = "max head speed " 3150rpm * "radio percentage" 55%
=> it means that if i need to get 2500 rpm as the expected Governor target speed , i need to set the "max head speed " to about 4545 ?

5. how do i know wether the SPIRIT Governor has take over the speed control or not?
(except for checking the if the speed is stable or not)

sorry, it is my first time using Governor feature. so asking a lot of simple questions. :-)

I can't help because I use Spektrum and not futaba.wait for Tomas or someone else

your problem doesn't seem to connect.
then do these things in order
other important thing In Hw esc if you have the v4 Platinium version you have to choose option 2 External Governor ,,, it is VERY IMPORTANT
Change the values in the governor panel Throttle Frequency and min and max 1100 and 1940 first. Save and exit. Then disable the governor in the spirit.
Make a linear curve on the Radio 0 25 50 75 100 and do the throttle calibration of the esc again. only after enabling the governor in the Spirit again and change the curves on the radio in normal 50 70 70 70 70 or the values you prefer and test.

Hi Pino74,
your reply speed like rocket! Amazing! thanks!
I try the 120Hz, the ESC&Motor runs ok, just do see the difference. :-)

1. Governor works ??
I change the "max head speed" to 4500rpm, now the speed value match each other ("current" is near to "requested"). but i still do not know if this is the governor is activated or it is because the ESC control the motor speed according to the setting % from the radio ?

2. how to change the target speed setting for SPIRIT Governor?
but if i change the radio throttle flat line level to 60%, means that the SPIRIT governor will works with the new value 4500*60%=2700rpm ? but how the SPIRIT know my "expected speed" setting change, i do not see any "Target Speed Value" or similar setting possibility in the "SPIRIT Setting" App.
or the Governor take the flat cure % as the target value and try to keep the motor run stable at the target speed value?

3. one stupid question, meaning of the Governor:
if the ESC can run the motor stably according to the flat-line throttle % (if stable), why I still need a governor (no matter in the ESC or in SPIRIT) ?

4. in SPIRIT manual said, the Throttle must be higher than 50%, then the Governor can be activated, can we change the % to other value for activation ? e.g. 40%, 30%...?
"(SPIRIT Manual) - 7.5 Transmitter
Flat Throttle Curve above 50% is necessary in order to use Governor feature. Under 50% Governor is
immediately disarmed and instead motor will be driven directly by throttle curve.
"

Best regards,
Jackson

You asked a lot of questions together I try to answer you concretely without using the quote (I don't like it)
First question
You need a Governor or that of the Esc or that of Your Spirit (the operating principle is slightly different) but the result is almost similar, because you want to keep fixed rpms even if the pitch of the blades changes.
if you use the heli without having the governor activated in the esc or in the spirit, the rpms of your model are decided by the curves of the radio, but it does not have an electronics regulatione like governor... that tries to MAINTAIN and ADJUST THE SAME RPMS at the change of pitch of the blades, YOU WOULD HAVE MANY higher and lower rpms when changing the blade pitch.
and there is a principle of proportionality with the discharge of the battery and the rpms of the head. the Governor tries to remedy this problem electronically.tries to keep them constant(the governor)

Second question

The governor in Spirit makes stupid reasoning
If you enter Max 4,000 Head rpms as the value, and on the radio in the normal curve you have 70 70 70 70 70, the governor means that you are REQUESTING 70% of 4000 rpms which is = 2,800 rpms.

You have to choose based on what head speed you want. If you want to have 3,200 rpms in the radio set 80 80 80 80 and in the spirit max 4,000. This is an example.

Question 3: you don't need a 50% value in the curves of the radio, you can also start at 70.
50% is a value that the Governor recognizes as close to its deactivation and can only help you when you make a landing to have fewer rpms with a normal curve.(soft landing)
