Post subject:  Spirit 2 and opti-guard, no ports left

Hello,
I swapped my spirit pro for a spirit 2 on my Goblin Drake, I'm using the telemetry as I did on the pro but the spirit 2 has 1 less port so I can no longer use my opti-guard.
Is there a work around so I can use my opti-guard even though all other ports are used up?

Thanks

You can use a Y-cable to have the opti-guard and one of the servos or the receiver share a port on the Spirit 2.

I wouldn't connect the opti-guard to the receiver instead of the Spirit. It should provide power directly to the Spirit.

I used a servo Y cable connected at AUX1 (or I believe any port except SYS or ELE/PIT/AIL). Then the BEC (or supply) connects to the Y as well as the Optiguard. The Y connector is double-sided-taped to the outside frame to be accessible, then when bench testing I unplug the Optiguard and connect a separate 2S battery, to prevent having a main (12s) battery connected. I get mine from Tomas @ Spirit (German made), the Y cable needs to be good quality.

Cheers, Andy

PS Frank beat me to it - what he said!

Thanks all for the responses I'll go with the y cable on the bec.

It's critical the opti guard provides power to BOTH rx and spirit, otherwise its pointless. The FrSky integration cable (needed because I'm using telemetry) doesn't carry power so I've got a cable running from the rx to the Spirit (with the data pin removed)

I'm going to try and document it later today.

Thanks, I don't use and Rx just the telemetry unit and a dsmx sat.
