I'm planning on using a Spartan SRC-RPM sensor next to the flywheel magnet on a Zenoah gas engine. Will this provide a good signal for the Spirit unit governor? What would optimum gap be?

If this isn't acceptable; what sensor and mounting position for Zenoah? I really want to use the Spirit governor with my Zenoah engine.

Thanks

Hi, the mount from GPH : http://store.gas-powered-helicopters.co ... r-0100.htm

Let us know how you get on with the governor please.

I have a mount, l need to know the answer to my question. Will it provide a good signal especially at high RPM?

Yes, it will.

I forgot to ask, what gap between the sensor and flywheel?

It can be a bit further away than the "almost touching" method that is used on nitros. Proably about 1 mm ? You can also look at the photos on the GPH site. There is a clear and comfortable gap.

Hello,

I also recommend to use only one active magnet or two active magnets.
Not active/inactive magnets.

Gap should be as small as possible without any possibility for touching in inverted and normal flight.

Hi Tomas,
I'm a little confused by your comment. As per my first post, I'm going to try to use the Spartan SRC-RPM sensor on my Zenoah gas engine near the flywheel using a mount inside the fan case. My understanding is there is only one magnet on the Zenoah flywheel and it only has one north and one south pole. It is a very strong magnet that can't be changed. In the Spirit governor manual it states the Spartan sensor is compatible with "gasser" helicopters. Is this the installation method you had in mind?

Hello,

the sensor is normally used on a flywheel where you can mount 2 magnets. Some people are mounting magnets in an opposite polarity. For this reason I have mentioned it is good to use only one direction.
If there is one mounting position for magnet, then it is just fine. You will only use one magnet.
