I've read a bit about static hits in the past but it's never been a problem for me because my helis have all been torque tube. I just got my first goblin (black nitro) and installed a spirit pro on it. I'm still setting the heli up, but am I going to need to do anything to ground the tail? The boom is carbon fiber so it wouldn't seem so. However during setup, I left the unit on while the heli was on the bench, went to my computer desk for a few minutes to look over the manual, and when I got back I wanted to unplug the RX pack from the spirit and got shocked with static and the unit reset itself.
I'm not sure if this was just coincidence but it's never happened before in the 2+ years I've been using these units.

Hello,
in that case the charge was very likely on you, because helicopter was not moving. For example it is very easy to charge yourself just by moving on a chair with wheels. Then clothings you are wearing can store the charge even better.
Unfortunately if this happened once, it could happen next time and even damage some of the electronics. But this is not due to the belt on helicopter but rather that big part of the model is conductive and you touched such part.
Normally there is no need to make a special grounding but for some pilots it helps a lot. You can check for a ground continuity from tail boom to the motor.

The unit appears to be working ok, I really hope it didn't get damaged after this. I just got it today!
