Post subject:  Strange Behavior of ESC and/or FBL????

Hello Tomas,

this afternoon I made a testflight with my Trex550X.

FBL Spirit pro
ESC Align 100 BLE
Telemetry Graupner HOTT
Transmitter Graupner MZ 24
Receiver Graupner GR16
SUMD
Governore Mode ESC Internal/ not store
RPM Cable of ESC not connected with Spirit
RPM Parameters (gear translation) input in spirit unit

I wanted to test Governormode of the Align ESC with two Banks (Bank0 60% flat Throttle,
Bank1 70 % flat throttle).
Still on the ground in Bank1 with 70% after perhaps 1 minute test on the ground the RPM was falling down, I switched into Bank1 with 60% and the RPM raised. After switching again in Bank1 the RPM again got low.
I felt almost like a soft cutoff, when Lipo suffers with low voltage. (It was a 6sLipo with 4000mAh, the temperature was about 5 degrees)
Now followed a strange behavior of the ESC form me.
I then cut of the engine , and the ESC cutted off with engine control too (always 3 short beeps from the motor).
I tried to connect the spirit with the spirit software, to get a log, but no connection.
Connection was only possible after reconnect the Lipo to the ESC.
Fort he next groundtest I used a 5000mAh Lipo and removed the telemetry connection.
All worked well and a following flight with another 5000mAh Lipo was fine too.
I´m now afraid, the strange behavior oft he ESC could repeat in flight, because I´m absolutly perplexed, what could caused this strange behavior (ESC, Governore Mode, Telemetry, FBL????)

Could you please give me an advice?

Thanks in advance with best regards
Roland

Hello Roland,

first from all I can say that something is not correct, because when you are changing Banks in the unit, there should be zero influance on the ESC.
Especially if you are using Governor from ESC, unit is doing nothing with the signal. So it is same as when you connect the ESC to any receiver.
Whatever bank is active, there must be no change with ESC's governor.

So I guess there will be some problem in the configuration.
For example you might have enabled Governor in the unit which would cause troubles as in that case two governors will be active at the same time.
So please make sure that in each Bank Governor in the unit is disabled (Governor unchecked in the Governor window).

I hope that this will help.

Hello Tomas,

thanks for reply on Sunday.

I tested all governor attitudes, governor was deaktivated in all banks.

Now I deaktivated the internal governor of the ESC and aktivated the governor of the spirit in all banks. Because we have fine weather today, I hope I can try the new setup.

What do You think of my guess, that yesterday a soft cut off because of the cold weather occured?
The RPM decreased not in connection with a bank switch, rather at normal motor use. The RPM increased then when I switched to bank 0.

Could there be any context with telemetry funktion? I deactivated all of them now.

With best regards

Excuse me, I forgot one question.

Is it absolutely necesary, to deaktivate the internal Softstart of the ESC, when I use the governor of the Spirit?

I´m afraid, I forget to activate the internal softstart, if I want to try the internal governor of the ESC eventally?

Hello Tomas,

I made two flights that afternoon with the governor from the spirit unit.

All was well without any strange incident.

Neither Governor nor esc made any difficulties.

Although I do not know exactly, what was the reason for the inident yesterday, I don´t believe it will repeat.

What do You think about my guess, it was just a soft cut off of reason anyway??????????

With best regards

Hi Roland,

yes, in the most cases it is required to disable the soft start.
Some ESCs do not like when you are changing the TC during spoolup, so this can cause different problems.

Great you have found it. I recommend just to try it few times safely on the ground to make sure it will always work good.
