Post subject:  ESC (Talon 35) will not initialize / Motor will not spool up

Hi,

I have a Spirit 2.0.1 installed in a stock Blade 360 (I only switched the pre-installed AR7200BX for a Spirit), using a Spektrum DSMX satellite and a DX7 transmitter. I went through the whole setup procedure according to the manual and everything seems to be working fine (servo direction, throw, correction when tilting the heli, etc.).

The only thing that does not work is the motor (the ESC is a Talon 35). It does not respond to any throttle input. In the configuration program I can see the throttle input on the diagnostics tab and it is correct. I even plugged the ESC into the RUD port and a normal servo (in my case the pitch servo) into AUX and yes, I can see the servo moving according to my throttle input. So the FBL seems to be sending the signal to the ESC. But, for some reason, the ESC seems to ignore the signal, or maybe just not arm..

Has anyone had this problem or do you have any tips for me?

Thank you & best regards,
Raul

Hi,

the problem is very probably caused only by a different throttle ranges.
Each receiver and FBL unit has different ranges, so the ESC must be recalibrated.

For this, you can use General - Governor/Throttle settings and modify the ranges or proceed according the manual of your ESC.

I found the solution - and here it is, for anyone who may also encounter it.

The pulse range for the Talon 35 (*) is 1070us low to 1940us high. The Spirit uses 1100us to 1900us by default (*) which is just enough for the ESC to not arm (neither in low for flight nor in high for endpoint configuration).

(*) I don't know if these values are typical for the Talon 35 or if they are specifically preset in the Blade 360 for the AR7200BX. Anyhow, they are just slightly outside the default Spirit range and enough for the ESC to not arm no matter how much travel, sub trim, and whatnot you change for the throttle channel in your transmitter.

So if you adjust them in the Spirit configuration software, you do not need any trimming in the transmitter. :-)

Cheers,
Raoul
