So like it says, id like to learn how to set up the gov in the spirit. Ive never set one up before in a fbl unit so I am in the dark about how to do it. Could somebody make a easy"how to" and explain the steps needed to get the spirit to work? Im using hobbywing escs in both my helis that have spirits installed. Thanks in advance! |

What should I set the esc to if im trying to use the gov in the spirit? Right now im using the hw gov and it works great. Ive already got the spirits throttle range calibrated 0-100 in the diagnostic tab and then recalibrates the hw endpoints using the high stick at start up then lower it after the tones. So i know I need to take the esc off gov store and select another option but which one so that the escs soft start doesnt interfere with the spirits soft start or anything else. |

I always read that to totally get rid of ESC soft starts, for HW you need to set it to Airplane mode. Make sure the Spirit is set to to slow spoolup rate, so not to risk your main gear. Lots of easy and good reading with a search (like this one as a sample): https://www.google.it/webhp?sourceid=ch ... ifreak.com |

For Hobbywing ESC you have to turn off Governor, because by default it is On in the ESC. Then you can proceed as described in the manual in the Governor section. There is step by step guide. Very important is to recalibrate ESC, respectively throttle range. This must be done when Governor is OFF in the unit. |

Ok I understand most of what the manual says about setting it yp except the throttle range max and min? Do I just get the spirit throttle channel in the diagnostic tab to read 0-100, then calibrate my esc using the high stick calibration, plug hw phase sensor into the unit, go turn on the gov in the unit and enter the rest of the gearing of the heli? I feel I understand the rest, its just setting those min and max throttle boxes in the gov tab that I dont understand what to do with. |

Yes, you are right. You can leave default 1100 and 1900 range in the unit and perform calibration of the ESC. |

If the ESC can calibrate itself to the unit (for example the ones with the "power on with high stick" procedure, like HW), then normally the Spirit 1100 and 1900 are not needed. The ESCs which need the input to be changed to match the ESC itself, like the CC, will need the Spirit 1100 and 1900 to be adjusted. I think this is the simpler (simplistic) explanation. |

Up to recently, I was a Castle ESC guy. Now I am using HW ESC's mainly for their robust internal BEC's. Makes my wiring much simpler. When you calibrate the HW ESC, follow the following rules: 1) Set the HW ESC to either airplane mode (what I prefer) or Helicopter Linear Throttle mode. 2) If your HW ESC has an internal BEC, make sure to disable the internal BEC. Disconnect the red wire from the ESC throttle wire or just connect a jumper wire with the red wire removed. 3) I disconnected the ESC RPM wire from the Spirit unit, but I am not totally sure if this is necessary. 4) Make sure to fully initialize the Spirit before powering the HW ESC. I left the Spirit Throttle Range at the default min 1100us and max 1900us. For the HW ESC, I increased the Throttle Frequency to 200Hz as suggested by Spirit. |

I have never had to do those steps for calibrating my hw escs. I simply setup the spirits channels first to 0-100 including throttle channel then power up my heli with high stick, hear two beeps and then lower it. The spirit then initializes and the esc arms. I generally power off then power back up after though. So im not sure all of those steps of removing the becs red wire is necessary like it is when calibrating castles escs and a ar7200bx. |
