Hi,
i have a raw420, it's my biggest heli yet. after a lot of sim i want to start doing inverting flying, when i use elevator to invert i find it slow and i want to make sure my settings are ok. I have 12,5 degree of pitch and have about the same on cyclic.

To make sure it's ok to flip on the front to back i try at a high altitude but it seems slow versus simming in Heli-x...

Here is a graph from the flight viewer with only the rotation rate on the screen, is this rate a normal fast enough rate ? the cyclic sensor settings are at 11 and general flight style are at 6 and i added the config file

Thanks !

Hi Pierre !
The only thing I see is maybe too much cyclic ring 12°, because of magentha letters that means either to much or to less - Rotationrate of 11 is high in my opinion - try by the cyclic ring only 10° then the magentha letters will disappear and set the rotationrate 9 or 8 to test the behavior -
In my opinion the cyclic ring should not higher than the max of negative/positive pitch - I do set the cyclic ring always lower than the pitch value, then you get no problem -
With the diagramm I can't do anything with it because I don't see any associated units, such as "°/sec", that makes it impossible to say somthing about it - i see rotation in X but no units -
click into the graph, then you will see the associated unit, that helps - you will see it in the windows listed below in the margin - Save the log on you computer (advanced flightlog) and upload the file here too (.4dr) -

Regards
Matthias

Hello,

it could be slow due to more reasons. Usually it is small head speed - in this case increasing will help.
11 should be fine for doing faster flips and rolls.

It could be also due to servos not being strong enough.

Cyclic Ring = bigger value mean always better maneuverability - possibility to do a faster flips/rolls. If you are increasing Rotation Rate and nothing is faster, then you are reaching mechanical/servo limits. Higher head speed will help in the most cases.

Thanks Matthias,

this is the file from which i took the snapshot, you need to reaname the file, *********** @Thomas ************ the site does not accept .4dr files in the upload window, you should at the extension to the upload extenstion configuration.

I have another flight i need to get from the unit that has more then a few 360 elevator spins.... that i will upload later.

Pierre

Hi Pierre,
one question, have you set dual rates in your transmitter ? How much are your rpms of your mainrotor in this recordings ?
As Tomas said, higher rpms of the mainrotor can help too - But in my opinion if you get magentha numbers then the values are to high or to low as said - that must be corrected in any case !

Regards
Matthias

PS. In the appendix I have loaded your FlightLog from the Z-Axis, but there are no units shown as "°/sec" ,maybe its really "°/sec" but not shown -

Rotation speed testing

Thanks for the feedbacks, I will go fly and use these changes and run 4 scenarios and see the results in the sky and hopefully the graphs..

1-configure on bank 0 a different setting for cyclic ring (and will test)

2-for headspeed I am running 2900 and will go at 3200

3- will test 4 scenarios willth 360 degree elevator flips and hope to see a different speed of rotation by “counting” fast in my head ;-)

So bank 0 or 1 and HS0 and HS1

I hope to see a difference…..

Any other suggestions ?

Thanks

Hi Pierre,
can you make a short video of your tests ? I think that says more than 1000 words :)
I am really interested how that looks like -

Greetings
Matthias

Hi Matthias,
I will record a video, good idea.

I used the comment’s from Thomas and looked at the performance of the micro servos I have and bumped the voltage to 8.2 volt, I was running them at 7.2 volts ( a recommendation I had received ).

Are these specifications ok for my raw 420, I had them on a 380 but was not doing as much as now in the air.

Torque (kg-cm) 2.2 (6.0V) / 2.8 (7.4V) / 3.2 (8.2V)
Torque (oz-in) 30.6 (6.0V) / 38.9 (7.4V) / 44.4 (8.2V)
Speed 0.07 s (6.0V) / 0.06 s (7.4V) / 0.05 s (8.2V)

Hello,

parameters of the servo are great, so it should work well I believe.
