Hi,

I'm building a TREX 700 with Spirit2 and Spektrum SPM4649T (telemetry) receiver - linked with the JETI integration cable. I want to use two additional DSMX remote receivers, Geolink module and ESC telemetry. SAT1 port is connected to the ESC with the TELEM-UNI cable (Hobbywing ESC). SAT2 port has one remote DSMX receiver.

I'm expanding the remote-receiver ports with the Spektrum multi-adapter cable (to accommodate the Geolink and a second DSMX remote), but both the Spektrum multi-adapter cable and JETI integration cable need to use the RUD port (power) and the AIL pin. Sorry if this has been asked before!

How can this be fixed, please?

Many Thanks, Andy

Hi,

unfortunately this combination is not possible.
It is possible to run only one satellite and SPM4649T together.

SPM4649T is acting as a second satellite, yet with telemetry.

Hey fella,
I have a Trex700E DFC using Spirit Pro, esc telemetry, a Spektrum 4649T receiver for integration and two satellites with the geolink too. I think the reason you can't wire up your system is the 'Hobbywing esc'. It needs one of the satellite ports to give telemetry. On mine, I have the Castle Phoenix 160 esc, using the aux port .
The only way I can see for you to connect everything up is to change your esc ! At the moment, both your Geolink and your hobbywing esc require the same 'primary' sat port, bad news.
On my install, I have the Geolink in primary sat port, 1 X sat in secondary sat port, Spektrum multi adapter in rudder and ele/pitch/ail port with 1 X sat and 4649t receiver in each skt this gives a level of 'redundancy' on receiver signal and the convenience of 'integration' too . On a side note, it would be good if we could get access to the geolink thro' the integration as well for adjustments etc. . . . .Perhaps in the future, eh Thomas ?
Perhaps another way to get receiver redundancy is to use something like a Spektrum 8010T connected as SRXL
( serial receiver ) and connect up to 3 X satellites to it, giving you a total of 4 receivers with its' inbuilt unit.
I have this setup on my Trex700 gasser, with the Spirit Black unit and a geolink
I hope this information gives you 'food for thought', I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news Re the Esc, sadly, I don't think there's any other way for you at the moment.
Kind regards and good luck !

Steve,
Many thanks for the comprehensive and helpful reply! I understand now, with your help and Tomas', that I can't have all the functions intended with my setup. I think I'll have to forego the ESC telemetry which is a shame, but does this mean I can't have RPM (headspeed) reported into the unit? I guess it should still communicate, to provide governor function.....? Perhaps Tomas can confirm if necessary.

Perhaps it'll be possible when the Spektrum SRXL Remotes become available, but I have no real idea why or how!

Again, thanks for the feedback - this will have saved me a load more head-scratching so it's better to modify my expectations rather than waste time on the impossible.....:)

Cheers, Andy

Hi again Steve,
Been thinking about your setup:
《quote》

"On my install, I have the Geolink in primary sat port, 1 X sat in secondary sat port, Spektrum multi adapter in rudder and ele/pitch/ail port with 1 X sat and 4649t receiver in each skt this gives a level of 'redundancy' on receiver signal and the convenience of 'integration' too ."

So to get the 4649T Rx AND Spektrum multi adapter in the same port, are you using a servo 'Y' cable into the ele/pitch/ail port then plugging them into that? Otherwise I'm still a bit baffled....sorry! My confusion is that the Spek. multi adapter (once plugged into the fbl unit) has only 2 ports for remote sats.

I'll find time later to experiment further but my priority (with the kit I have) is to maximise Rx signal capture so with the 4649T at the front of the heli and one remote sat. Rx on each side behind the canopy I should get good coverage.

Cheers, Andy

Hi Andy,
The 'Spektrum multi adapter' itself has 2 male servo plugs on one end, and plugs into the rudder port with the plug that has three wires the other male servo plug has only one wire that goes into the ail/ pitch/ele port with the wire connecting to the ail pin. The other end of the adapter has got 2 female JST satellite connectors so you can connect a satellite into one and, by using a satellite extension lead, connect the 4649T receiver to the other ( discard the original Y lead that came with the 4649T). Be careful when fitting the sat extension lead to the 4649T that you only connect to the three of the four pins in the connector from the left, ie. 4-8.4v, gnd, serial/bind
DO NOT connect to the pin marked N/C ! this will short out the receiver and, likely burn out the extension lead.
When you need to bind the 4649T, use the original lead on its' own connected the same way you would normally, there after you can just use the sat extension.
I hope this clears up any confusion
Kind regards,
Steve E

Andy,
on the subject of RPM, you can use a 'stand alone' RPM sensor powered from any spare 'Y' lead ( red and black ) and signal wire plugged in to the Ele port ( centre pin ) on the Ail/pitch/ Ele port. This should give you 'governor' function on the Fbl unit.
be lucky.

Steve,

You, Sir, are a star - many thanks! I'm coming back to R/C from 5 years back and before that, on-and-off since about 1960 so it's a job keeping-up with all 'dis new-fangled stuff innit? Having said that, it's good to be challenged trying to figure-out things, but fantastic to come to places like this where help is at-hand. I'm going to re-plumb my setup as per your suggestion and go from there. As for RPM, there's a one-wire signal from the ESC which goes, as you (and the manual) say to the middle pin of the ELE-PIT-AIL port, so it looks do-able to have governor controlled by the Spirit unit.

Cheers, Andy

Andy,
Ah Yes, the lovely yellow wire ! that would do the trick. Good thinking.

I am pleased to be able to help, I know how difficult it can be to 'wrap your head' around a new piece of kit, I am sure that you will not be disappointed by the Spirit unit (s) they are wicked good ! ! !
If you have any more questions, drop me a line, I'll do my best to help.
Good luck and safe flying.
Regards
Steve E

Hi,

I've been struggling with my setup to obtain ESC telemetry with additional DSMX satellites. Here's what I'm trying to achieve:

Spirit2 with Spektrum SPM4649T and TWO additional dsmx satellites, Hobbywing v4 ESC / TELEM-UNI cable and Spektrum multi adapter. Tomas has said it can't be done with 2 satellites and that only one will work alongside the SPM 4649T, yet Steve E says he's got a working setup with two, albeit with a Spirit Pro. So Tomas, is the Spirit2 limited here?

I have managed to achieve (I think) a working setup of telemetry receiver and TWO satellites. All have 3 steady LED indications but how can I tell (via telemetry) that all 3 are working? My telemetry (Spektrum iX12) only reports a figure of -41 dBm (on the bench); it's not split into the three, as I suspect it would be if the satellites were connected directly to the Rx.

I only have part ESC telemetry via the TELEM-UNI cable (plugged into Sat1). I have selected the 'Hobbywing v4' option in the software. The only parameters showing are:

RPM
Motor %output (is this the same as Throttle% which has a separate entry but not reported)??
FET temp

I don't have:

Flight Pack Capacity, despite setting it up in the telemetry list as per manual
Main battery Amps
Main battery volts
BEC volts

The main one I've been trying to achieve is Flight Pack Capacity, but it's never shown.

Spektrum integration appears on the Text Gen page, but I haven't tried operating it yet.

Any ideas, folks, as to how I can get ALL the telemetry data from the (Align) Hobbywing v4 ESC or can someone confirm that this is all-there-is, please?

Also, if someone knows how to verify that all Rx remotes are working (signal-wise), I'd appreciate it. Perhaps a steady LED is enough to know?

Cheers, Andy
