Hi all!

So I tried the Gov today. Stared on 3/1, which as expected bogged when I did a pitch pump.

At 3/3, it's better, but still bogs.
At 4/3 it held pretty good, but still didn't hold under prolonged load.
At I tried various [3-5]/[3-5] combinations, settling on 4/5 eventually for my first lets-actually-try-to-fly-now.

At or above 4 for Gov Resp, I observe hunting coming back into a hover, for example after a tic tic or rainbow.
I increased Hold Perf to 5, which made it pretty good in general flying (by that I mean a couple of pitch pumps to check tail holding, a tic toc or two - I didn't fly a pack through it at this point), that's when I tried a rescue...

When I engage rescue, it bogs really badly. Like. Awful. I have no logging on this heli, but I'm estimating something like down 500-700rpm, continuing to drop RPM as rescue remains enabled.

I didn't go above 5 for Gov Resp since I was already observing hunting when returning to a hover.
I didn't go above 5 for Hold Perf since the manual recommended most of the time to stick between 3-5.

Anyone got any wide ideas?

Setup:
Mode: Electric fast spool
Sensing Divider: 4
Ratio: 6.65
Max RPM: 2800 (473mm blades)
Gov Resp: 5
Hold Perf: 5
PIT: connected to Slave output on the YGE 90 LV.

ID1: 2500
ID2: 2635 (tests were done in both ID1/2)

Hi,

most probably your governor is limited by upper Throttle limit (parameter Max.).
If so, then it is like using just 70% of available power so it can't hold well.
Then it is impossible to tune governor.

I recommend to try to increase Max. to for example 115 if you will see improvement.
This can be caused if throttle range is not calibrated in the ESC precisely, but Max. parameter can solve it.
Then it should work with lower values.

Good point. I shall recalibrate the ESC and see if that helps. I'm pretty sure I calibrated it BEFORE setting up the spirit, and am almost certain that I changed the endpoints after that.

Does this mean also that we should never target a head speed more than ~70% the max we've set for throttle?

OK.

You can fly even with 100% TC if Max. Head Speed is under limitation of your helicopter/ESC.
If you will set the value to the absolute maximum, then it is better to not exceed approx. 85% TC.

Right, it's now much better. I re-calibrated the YGE, just to be sure.

However; the real probable reason for the failure was ... me!
I had setup this model using the new Futaba instructions, i.e: using ID3 as rescue.
When I changed from the YGE -> Spirit Gov, I completely forgot to change my throttle curve setting *in ID3*. It was still really low (55% vs 90%), so actually the Spirit was doing what it was told.

Had a number of successful flights today. There's still tuning to do (getting overspeeding in TT's), but it's working much better.

So, remember to check *all throttle curves* when you setup!
