My setup is the Spirit FBL with DSMX sats and DX8 TX.
I used your method 1 configuration and also applied the rescue activation on the trainer switch (under "interesting tips"). To enable the trainer switch the instructions tell me to inhibit the TX gyro switch then set trainer=gear. But when I look at the software, it indicates gyro control is done by the TX. Do I disable the gyro channel in the software channel tab in order to allow the software to control this? This step is only indicated under the PWM/DSM2/X method 2, which I am not using. Not sure what is controlling the tail the way this is set up.

You still will control the Gyro Gain from the transmitter, but here it comes very tricky. You have to use Mixing feature and set gyro gain there for each flight mode separately.
So you will need at least 3 mixes.
So mixes will determine Gyro Gain.

You have to set GEAR -> GEAR mix for each.

Thank you, but I am unable to set these mixes without additional direction. Could this be added to your TX setup document to help us with your tip to use the trainer switch?
This is the reason so many asked for the the Spektrum setup guide. Agree, it is tricky.

I found this on HF. Great info, almost there, but still not sure how to set different gyro rates "per bank".

( Thanks to Dustin Mustangs)
Here is some help for those of you a little confused on how to set up your Spektrum Tx for bailout/stability and banks in Spirit. This is the part NOT covered in either manual. I am using a DX7s, I assume others differ in terminology but the general process is similar. I am using a sat which supports 7 channels and all of them are required the way I do it. I believe the use of a full Spektrum receiver limits you to only 6 channels? If so, maybe someone could chime in with how they accomplish this in that scenario.

Start in the System Setup Menu which is where you arrive just after changing models. Go to switch select and change Gyro to INH and change whatever switch you want to use for bailout/stability (trainer) to GEAR. This gives you +100/-100 gain on that switch. On the Function List Menu go to Mixing and select Mix1. Make a GER>GER mix with all the letters at the bottom highlighted. This mix is where you set your tail gain. The Rate number + 100 ~ your HH tail gain. The middle number with no label - 100 ~ your rescue gain. Obviously you change both when adjusting gain. At this point put -30 for rate and 30 for the blank number. Verify you can get a +/- value less than 100 on the monitor visible to the left of the mix screen for the channel GER. Now connect to the Spirit software and go to the diagnostic tab to set an appropriate gain to start with according to what Spirit actually sees.

While still connected to the Spirit software, go to the general tab, click the channels button, and set bank to channel 7. Now head to the Functions List on the transmitter again and go to the Governor menu. Select a 3 position switch to use for banks (Gyro) with the channel AUX2 and values of POS 0:-100, POS 1:0, POS 2:100. Again, use monitor on the transmitter (GOV channel) and then the diagnostic tab in the software to verify banks operation.

A couple of other notes... Pay attention to the mix screen monitor when making tail gain mix adjustments as the positive and negative numbers are counter intuitive. I would recommend using the trainer (momentary) switch for bailout. It can be physically swapped to the more convenient Gear position on a DX7s without soldering. Be careful with bailout. Fully bench test it and have plenty of airspace for the first in-flight tests.

Hopefully this helps!

With our method 2. described in our guide Gyro Gains can be configured for each bank.
Everything is working there without touching mixes that are not very easy to manage.
If you have already own modifications in the transmitter you can resolder Elev D/R to momentary switch.
This solution will work very well.

Mixes can introduce more unwanted problems, and also trainer position is on the place that is normally not reachable by any finger. You can by accident change position of any other switch when it is used. Rescue activation should be activated as quick as possible thus you must train muscle memory. With trainer button that is too far it is hard.

Will your method 2 work with sats? This is only indicated in method 1.
Thank you for your feedback.

Edit- I have switched the placement of the gear and trainer switches. Would I still need to resolder as you indicate?
