Busy testing the Spirit on my trusty TRex500. Got everything more or less to fly OK, but have one question, can one use EXPO in the TX to make the feel of the tail and cyclic to your liking?

Hello,

yes. In the manual it is even suggested to use Expo.
You can use 20-30% without any issue.

Thanks, as I am used to VBar where one use lots of expo on the tail and have done so on the Spirit, but this resulted in a very vague and dull tail. Even now with zero expo it is still sluggish and sloppy stops. Mechanically the tail is the same that worked well on the VBar. Setup is per default TRex500 model.

Any suggestions on getting a crisp tail response. Gain is already at 80% with 1.0 gain multiplier.

You can increase your gain even higher if possible first.
Then if gain is at its maximum value, you can increase agressivness with Rudder dynamic parameter. But default 6 should be similar to VBar settings.

Just for interest sake, nowhere in the English manual is EXPO mentioned.

Piro consistency is at 185 and rudder dynamic is at 6. I have now upped the gain multiplier to 1.2 and it seems better. Will testfly some more and report back. Tail control for me feels the best with ZERO expo in the TX. Even on cyclic control I have set ZERO expo on AIL and ELEV for the same feel as VBar with expo.

It is important to configure rudder delay/piro consistency/rudder gain properly else tail can be delayed/not hold very well.
It is best to configure stopping behavior at the end of a tail tunning process.

In english manual Expo is mentioned in troubleshooting section.
