GeoLink will work also when magnets are closer. It might work fine even in 10cm proximity. It depends just on how intense magnetic field of the magnets is.
You can verify easily by moving GeoLink closer if Compass angle is changing in some way (while maintaining physical angle same). No one can't answer this question, because without exactly same setup it can't be verified. So the best is to verify it.
