A buddy and I are running into what seems like EXTREMELY high FET temps, so high that at times if accurate the ESC "should" be shutting down but are not. We are testing the heat sink temps with a IR temp gun and are getting much lower number (as expected), however I wanted to check and see if inflated FET temp is a known issue with a fix.

We are thinking there is no way these are right, any ideas?

Temps were high 80's yesterday here in GA so ambient was not our friend to begin with.

His setup is a DX9 with HW v4 80a

My setup is DX8G2 and

HW v4 80a in a Goblin 380.

Here is the temp graph for the hardest flight from yesterday (88c+ temps):

And the HW v4 160a-HV in a Goblin Speed (138c+ temps):

Hello,

the Spirit is receiving data from the ESC and transmitting it to your radio.
It is retransmitting in the way as provided by ESC. Please note that ESCs can have temperature sensor directly near the FET transistors.
These transistors can have temperatures few times higher than what you can measure on the heat sink. And it is quite normal.
There is never perfect heat transfer between heat sink and FET.

These transistors can work reliably in the most cases up to 150°C.

We have seen similar values with other HWs too. But mostly near 60 - 70°C.

Hi,

I had the same values like you guys. Alsmost similar setup.
Spirit Pro FW2.4.4
HW 80A V4
Spektrum SPM4649T + Sat
DX8 G2

I had values between 130 an 140°C. Theres now way that this value is correct. I think it was 60° max. No problem to touch.
I had a cutoff because of over heating in the past and impossible to touch it. Not even for a second.

As far I now Hobbywing over temp cut off is 110°C.
