Hey everyone, I've always had this issue and wonder if it's something that can be sorted out. When pirouetting left the governor behaves normally, but when you pirouette right, when you first give it right rudder the governor will speed up/overshoot. This happens at pretty much all the different gov gains I've tried, and it happens on both electric and nitro. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

when helicopter is pirouetting then direction is making big difference, because at one you are increasing torque the motor has to overcome while at other the load is decreased. So governor should really compensate it to maintain constant RPM.
But it should not overshoot. If you can hear overshooting then possibly Governor Response is too high or there is too high delay between action/reaction. There decreasing RPM sensor filter can help.

With faster rudder rotation the difference should be more apparent.

I am just wondering if you are testing the beta firmware you received or you are referring to the official. Since with beta it can be configured to prevent any overshooting. For this reason I recommend to ask me directly as you agreed in the testing protocol.

This was actually something happening prior to the beta firmware, and I am still running the current actual release on the electric 700. I will try decreasing the RPM filter setting to see if that helps, it's currently at the default of 6. Aside from that, the electric is running a HW 160v4 (prior I had a castle 160) and the RPM readings seem MUCH better, as in, the governor is not dropping out and the headspeed always changes when I change flight modes. I'm assuming the rpm signal from the HW is better or something. On the other hand governor gains in the spirit seem much, much more sensitive, as in I had to decrease response gain to about 3 because it was overshooting at 5.

Overall it's looking good and getting there. I will PM you to discuss anything related to the beta firmware.

Thank you for the message.

With HobbyWing you can increase frequency so the response of the governor can be theoretically at least 2 times faster.
For Castle only 60Hz is working which is really on the edge.

What frequency do you recommend for the hobbywing 160 v4? I currently have it set to 120hz. Today I lowered the RPM filter to 4 and it seemed to help a tiny bit with the overshooting on right rudder but it's still there. It's a delayed overshoot, so when you give right rudder half a second later the headspeed goes up and then down like a wave.

If you hold right rudder it will even stay overshot, while left rudder does not overshoot at all.

Similar happens some times on fast pitch movements, gov will sag for a fraction of a second followed by a delayed overshoot and then it comes back down. Not sure what to do.

I am running HW v4 60 / 80 / 160 and I have all of them at 200hz. Works great.

HobbyWing is recommending 120Hz, but we have also found that it can work even better with 200Hz.
