Post subject:  [SOLVED] telemetry is not working

Just purchased a spirit pro and tried to set up on my trex 450L. I also have a 300X and that was setup very similar and works fine.

The trex is running a castle edge lite 50 with firmware V4.25. I loaded the latest firmware 2.6.1 onto the spirit. The 4649T has the latest firmware from spektrum. RPM data is completely wrong. I'm running a KDE 450XF so its an 8 pole motor. Gear ratio is 11.0/1. I should be seeing 3000 rpms I see maybe 300-400 rpms and its erratic. All of the data from telemetry is sometimes accurate sometimes way off. I have the BEC set to 6.0v it will sometimes report 7.2V. Battery voltage will fluctuate between 10.0V -22V I am running a 6S battery it should never dip to 10v.

I can pull the log data from the ESC and it is all reporting correctly. So I suspect an issue with this Spirit pro. When I initially tried setting it up the ESC would never arm. I had to disable and then re-enable castle ESC in the spirit SW before it started working. Even now it still does something odd when it arms it briefly turns the blades. This is with throttle hold set.

I have tried everything I can think of. I am out of ideas. Any suggestions? Seems like this Spirit could be defective? I have only done bench testing never tried flying this one.

Hello,

can you please attach your 4ds file settings and also flight log from the Spirit unit (from any flight or at least bench test)?
Is the Telem CC cable connected firmly? Was it bought from our eshop or is it homemade version?

homemade its just a 10k resistor fairly easy to make. To test if it was that I pulled the one off the working heli and I got the same results.

I went in and changed the esc freq to 60hz
throttle range min 1060 max 1940

esc wont arm now.

Thank you.

Configuration of the Sensing Divider is wrong - for 8 motor poles you have to set value of 4 - see parameter description.
This could solve the RPM issue.

Otherwise configuration looks good.

You can try to decrease Throttle Range - Min to 1040us. Castle ESCs are unfortunately little bit temperature dependent so the values require some tolerances.

Is GeoLink module connected? If no, then you have to turn off the GeoLink support in the Spirit Settings.

I was able to get the ESC to arm reliably by turning down the min to 1030us

And yes I have a geolink module plugged in.
The rest of the telemetry data is still wrong. Let’s assume 8 I’m getting a reading of 300-400 rpms. Dropping that to 4 isn’t going to get me to 3000rpms.

Also the battery voltage jumps between 10volts and 22volts. Current is wrong, BEC voltage bounces between 6v and 7.2v. And this is when I can get it to actually send anything at all. It’s as if the timing for the telemetry data is off. The data is very slow to update. Any way to capture some of the telemetry data in a log?

Well, here we have exactly same ESC and it was always working well. There is not too much you can do except changing the telemetry cable or trying a different unit if you have any.
For sure there shouldn't be any variation in the data.

Are you sure that the ESC Link-Live feature is enabled?

Yes live link is turned on.

Seems like it might be the spirit. I plugged the ESC into the known working unit and it seems to work. I’ll start fresh create a new model in the remote and put everything back to defaults and try again. But this could be the spirit?

Still no luck I keep getting inconsistent results

It seems to get close with the sensing divider=3. Have you guys done much testing with KDE motors?
The 450XF is definitely an 8P motor. I am not against purchasing your resistor just to eliminate it as being an issue. It's not working correctly at this point.

Do you mean that you have tried it with other Spirit unit and it is working properly? If yes, then it is clear.
