Post subject:  Slow Flip Rate/Fast Roll Rate

Hi,
Searching this topic yeilded no results, so I'll ask here in this great forum:
I cannot get my flip rate (elevator) to go higher than about 2 seconds per 360°. However, the aileron roll rate is very fast (< 1 second per 360°). I maxed out the cyclic ring to 9°, but no improvement.
My setup is:
Heli: Diabolo 700
Head speed: 2000 rpm
Blades: Cyclone 695
Radio: DX8 + satellites & 4649t
Spirit Pro settings:
Cyclic Ring:. 107 (9*)
Cyclic gain: 42
Cyclic rotational speed: 12
Elevator filter: 4
Cyclic feed forward: I tried 2 & 6
Pitchup comp: 0
DX8 dual rates: 100%

If I increase cyclic feed forward, the initial 90° of the flip is fast, but the remainder of the flip is slow.

I do activate cyclic Ring in flight, but it might be only during aileron rolls.

Any ideas? Especially how my flip vs roll rates can be so different?

Other than this, flight characteristics are awesome.

Thanks
Chris

Hello,

9° for cyclic is rather low. Ideally you might want to set 10 - 11°. For hard 3D you might need even more. But risk for boom strike is increasing with higher angle so it is better to use lower range if possible.
Especially if you are using SAB blades they require quite high angles and RPM. With different blades (e.g. MSC Rapid) it can flip/roll much faster.

There is also possibility that servos are too weak or mechanics is somehow tight and the servos can't overcome the forces.

Normally both rates should be same if you can measure same angles for elevator and aileron when giving a max. stick deflection.

It is also possible that Geometry 6° was not configured precisely. This will cause a troubles also for Cyclic stability/behavior. Maybe for this reason you have so low cyclic gain, since nearly each helicopter should work with 60% and more.

Okay, I'll review all these items with my setup. I think since the roll rate is fast, it eliminates blades. More cyclic ring can cause binding in the corners, but I can try increasing it as a test.
Thanks for the ideas.
