First of all some basic information.

FBL FC: Spirit BE w/ SPM4648 Satellite Receiver
Transmitter: Spektrum DX9
Model: Oxy 3 - 285 Stretch

Current setup as per a friends instructions (copied & pasted)

[START]
Ok well I assume you want to program Bank Switching along with self-level and Rescue correct ?
I that's correct then here my setup

I have Bank switching on Switch C (its your choice of 3 position switch)
Bank 0 is Normal Self Level
Bank 1 is Normal Rescue
Bank 2 is Acro Self Level

Let’s start with the Radio
Power on Radio Holding down the roller until powered up
Then go to Channel Assign and assign Aux 2 to your switch in my case C
Then go Model Main screen
Click roller and scroll down to Gyro and assign it to the same switch.
And set position 0 to -100
Position 1 to 0
Position 3 to +100
Then we need to set up 3 mixes
Mix 1 and Mix 2 will be EXACTLY the same
GER>GYR
Rate -100 % 0%
Offset 0
Switch I White Box 0 Black Box 1
Mix 3
Aux2>Aux2
Rate -100% -100%
Offset 0
Switch I White Box 0 Black Box 1

Now in the software
General Tab
Channel Assign
Gyro Gain Channel 5
Bank Channel 7
The I Diagnostic Tab
Verify Bank switching follows 3 position Switch
reverse in radio if necessary
Channel 5 verify 0 and +/-100 use travel adjust for the 100 and sub trim for the 0 readings. This is the ONLY time you use Sub Trim.
Then in radio in Gyro set position 0 and 2 to -60 and position 1 to +60
In Stabi Tab Select Bank 0 lower right corner
Bank 0 Select Normal Stabilization
Bank 1 Select Normal Rescue
Bank 2 Acro Stabilization.
How it works is when Switch C in 0 and 2 you have Neg Gyro gain and Stabilization Mode
In position1 you have Pos Gyro Gain Normal Flight NO stabilization.
When in Position 1 and press switch I Gain changes to Neg and have rescue.
When in Position 0 and 2 and press switch I you change to Bank 1 and Gain Neg and have rescue.
When you get it all done we can then verify you have it all programmed correctly.
This can be a lot to digest and confusing, It was for me at first also.
So go through it and let me know if you have any questions.
[FINISH]

So this is how I have the software and transmitter set up, and I believe the tail wag issues I am having are a result of this setup, because we swapped out the Spirit FC with a AR7200BX and the tail was rock solid. When we reinstalled the Spirit unit, the tail wag was back. The mechanics of the tail and the rest of the unit is smooth as silk, so the only thing left is the Spirit FC which is not programmed properly (TX as well maybe set up incorrectly) or I have a faulty Spirit FC. I am thinking that the gyro is not properly setup in the mix that maybe causing the tail wag that won't go away. I do not have the gyro tied to my FM switch (B) either like most gyros are set up, which does not allow me to set the values for the different head speeds like Normal, IU 1, and IU 2. My gyro gain is in the TX and presently set at -65, 65, -65 and I have tried different values from 25 to 95 in increments of 5 and the tail wag speed just increases with higher values and decreases with lower values. Examples: -25, 25, -25 and -95, 95, -95 etc... This is why I believe the way the gyro gain is set up in the mix is incorrect and casing the tail wag.

I hope Tomas can suggest some instructions, even if I have to set new model in transmitter and reprogram software settings right from the beginning to fix this problem as it has been a real dilemma for some time now.

Kevin

Hi Kevin!

Thank you for detailed info!
I think that the problem could be in:
a) mounting of the unit - used tape? Correct is very important, since each unit has different properties and weight.
b) pirouette consistency or rudder delay value - can you attach your settings, please?

We have had a customer that compared two units as he had very same problem. Then he used right tape and all was OK.

Sorry for the long thread with all the detail, and I for got a few items.

#1 I am using the grey VHB tape that comes with the Spirit Pro units as I too thought the previous tape which was the original (white foam) was crumbly so I replaced it as I have a new Spirit Pro still in the original box.

#2 Here is a list of the settings in the advanced tab:
Elevator Filter: 1
Cyclic Feed Forward: 5
Rudder Delay: 0 (as per your recommendation for my type of servo)
Rudder Dynamic: 8
Rudder Revomix: 0
Pirouette Consistency: 160 (tried varied settings, made no difference)

#3 Sensor Tab Settings (all left at default)
Rotation Speed
Cyclic: 8
Rudder: 8

Great,

could you please attach your full settings, please?
You can save 4DS file in the Backup tab and attach it here.

If the settings will look good, then the only issue could be in servo arm length or mechanical tail center.
These things can differ between units as each require different mechanical setup to work optimally.

Is the bottom surface of the unit covered fully by the tape?

ORIGINAL BANK SETTINGS FOR ALL BANKS.4ds [255 Bytes]

Hello Tomas,

The servo arm length is as short as possible with ball in hole closest to the servo shaft (KST MG215 DS V3.0)
The tail is centered mechanically and is smooth as silk in movement and travel in both directions.
As for the FC mounting tape, yes it is covering full surface of the FC unit and mounted firmly. I also have the requested 4DS file as an attachment so you can see full settings.

I have also previously sent you a vibe analysis as you requested while you were on vacation, but have not yet received a reply as to your interpretation of them. Those nine images were sent in an email to you on July 23, 2017 along with other information on the model in question.

Regards,

Kevin

Ah, I think I see the problem.

When you check the rudder end-points, you can see that the value are too high (you can see warning in the software about it).
This is caused by the servo arm being so short.

Please make it longer so the end-points are around 80 - 120 ideally.

Then you will have to change (decrease little bit) gyro gain too.

Tomas where is it documented about rudder end points being between 80 and 120 ?
Where is the warning ?
Are these numbers standard for all models or related to heli size ?
